    Pros

Napa Valley Community College is an excellent employer. I worked at the Business Office and it was a very positive experience because they are very organized and committed to follow GAAP as well as rules and regulations of the the State of California, Community College Chancellor's Ofice.

    Cons

The health benefits were not very good because the District only covers the employee and not the beneficiaries.

    Advice to Management

Train the supervisors on their employees jobs.

    Pros

Napa Valley College has wonderful faculty and staff to work for and with. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I was able to spend working there and learning from them.

    Cons

The upper management and HR department do not work well together. They constantly create new procedures and guidelines in order to eliminate good, quality employees for incompetent ones.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to hire people that are truly qualified for positions, rather than placing people in positions that are promised or entitled. Following structure and the law will save you many headaches in the future.

    Pros

It is a small campus, generally attractive other than the new construction. Small departments mean you get to know other faculty members well. Programs are apparently well run, and the politics of the academy are not as vicious as other colleges where I have taught.

    Cons

Adjunct are second-class citizens. Benefits are limited, and do NOT ask about them to senior management.

    Advice to Management

You have 100 FT instructors and 200 PT instructors; recognize that you cannot exist without the strength, experience, and enthusiasm of PT faculty by treating them with respect, better pay, and improved employment opportunities. Establish seniority among the adjunct faculty to reward the loyalty many of them show the college. Do not tout claims of growth in FT hires when you fail to mention they were offset by retirements.

Great co-workers make it worth it.

    Cons

Management is not supportive. No real opportunities for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Get it together. Need to work collaboratively with faculty and staff.
