I worked at Narus full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Optimistic company with a drive to be bigger. Struggled with focus both at a geographical and target vertical levels. Could have been much bigger than they ended up!

    Cons

Reasonable technology, poor product roadmap and engineering quality. Management egos stopped them from taking advise from people who knew better than them.

    Advice to Management

Listen to people within your team who are subject matter experts and use this information to make informed decisions. Do not believe your own hype!

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

There were a lot of dedicated people working in individual contributor/first level management roles who really wanted to develop great products

    Cons

Executive level management was focused on trying to get that big deal that would bring in a windfall. As a result, the product strategy was based on what the latest potential big customer wanted.

    Advice to Management

Set a product strategy that has a chance for success then stick to it. Select customers based on how they will fit in with the strategy.

I worked at Narus (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Technically knowledgable colleagues.
    Reasonably decent technology.

    Cons

Screwed up management. Screws engineers by making them work day and night without knowing where the market is and what will make money.

Focus on filling their pockets and undercutting peers trying to outdo each other.

Competing with each other rather than competing with others in the market.

Engineering upper management just goes by hearsay thinking that one person can do miracles without knowing what that miracle is supposed to deliver and how it impacts the bottomline.

    Advice to Management

Does not matter as Boeing said "Enough of this crap.".

    Pros

    1. Knowledgeable colleagues.
    2. Good learning opportunity.

    Cons

    1. Work performance was measured in terms of when you come to office and how much time you spend. The time transition time when Symantec bought it, there was no work in office, but, still people are forced to come at 9 a.m. and sit idle. Even if you always deliver your story/work before time, managements sees only when you are coming to office.
    2. They say they follow agile. But its just in name.
    3. Never understood the QA system.
    4. No product sale.
    5. Lunch was good in the beginning. Became worst in the end.

    Advice to Management

Does not matter now. Company got shutdown.
