I have been working at Nashville Pet Products full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Pros:
-pay is good for a pet store
-get to help others give their pets the best
-play with pups that come in
    -pretty good discounts
    -free pet food

As long as you don't have outrageous expectations, this is a very good job.

    Cons

    Cons:
-upper mgnt can have unrealistic expectations
-the owner is very old fashion and not willing to jump into the 21st century

    Advice to Management

I feel like if the company as a whole would jump into this century and let go of old fashion ideas, turn over would not be so high.

I have been working at Nashville Pet Products full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get free dog food and an employee discount. They do offer health benefits for full time employees.

    Cons

Just about everything else is a con. The owner expects sales associates to escort customers out to their cars with umbrellas when it's raining. We are chewed out when we don't reach the sales goals. Managers are worked way too much to really care about what's going on. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY! You can get treated better somewhere else. The training is ridiculous, they are just giving you busy work and expect you to be fully devoted to the job. IT'S DOG FOOD, PEOPLE! Don't take it so seriously!!! You are required to adhere to a very strict dress code, you only get two five minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times. If you want more customers, advertise and get a better website! Treat your employees like their adults and not children and start to hire part time employees. People need to work and go to school.

I have been working at Nashville Pet Products part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A good place to work if you like pets and people enough to put up with this place.
    Co-workers are friendly

    Cons

Very little pay for what they want you to do
Having to hover over the customer makes peoples shopping experience very awkward
Having to carry out a grown mans 5lb bag of dog food
Having to go out during any amount of rain and walk people to the door with an umbrella while you are getting soaked.
    Half hour unpaid lunches
    The insurance is terrible
    There is no 401k
    No sick time
Owner and upper management have unrealistic goals about sales
    They do not pay overtime
    Extemely stressful

    Advice to Management

If you really want to meet your extremely high sales goals you should have more employess on the floor and offer commision. All of your employess are constantly worried about getting fired due to the customer service goals you put in place.

I worked at Nashville Pet Products full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

decent pay, working with animals, free pet food

    Cons

lots of heavy lifting, micro managed ( actually have cameras in stores that owner and COO log in and watch from home) Horrid benefits, company could care less about its employees.

    Advice to Management

treat your employees like you care. Stop approaching business plans like a 30 year old business plan. Give your managers the opportunity to manage without being second guessed.

    Pros

This is a great place to work if you love pets and want to encourage owners to feed and provide supplies of a natural/holistic variety to their animals. Management encourages employee learning in regards to products.

    Cons

Part time employees were unable to receive enough hours to compensate the small hourly salary. Owner/Senior management was at times unrealistic in their expectations of employees sales and quotas.

    Advice to Management

If management is intent on employees meeting high sales quotas there should be more training in this area. Especially for this with no previous background in this area.
