I worked at Nassau Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Your boss is there to help you succeed, not just in your work, but in your studies. My boss made sure I always had time to ace my midterms and finals, while still getting work done.

    Cons

You'll only be able to work up to 30 hours, but it's not a problem.

I worked at Nassau Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked on fun top 40 radio show playing all the latest and newest hits, covered pop culture news.

    Cons

Restricted with ideas, didn't give freedom in terms of doing our own show.

    Advice to Management

    Allow more freedom/creativity.

I worked at Nassau Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -lots of free study/down time

-Great opportunity to learn about professors and their life experiences

-free food brought by the professors or from working in school conferences

    Cons

-dealing with "interesting" students/callers; NCC attracts weird people who may call more than once on a settled request

-internal conflicts reaching uncomfortable levels of tension; budget planning can be divisive at times

-cold, uninsulated floors; they freeze your feet in the winter

    Advice to Management

Continue to care for the students and keep letting the professors talk in the waiting area. The experiences of the professors encourage the students.

I worked at Nassau Community College part-time

    Pros

Had fun, good people in my department and extra time enough ot do homework while I work. Very convienent to be able to have a job on campus.

    Cons

Need to sit all the professors down and tell them to treat students better. Some of them actred very angry all the time and treated us like inferiors.

    Advice to Management

Have some standards about how employees treat each other and keep up the goo work with the job itself It's a great way to get some extra money while in school

I worked at Nassau Community College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Strong union that gets their members what they can; After 10 years, there was no more contributions to health insurance (I don't know if they still have that, but no one else does !!!). The union got small bonuses for the people for college credits, reimburse a portion of out of pocket prescription costs; gave a holiday party.

    Cons

The epitome of waste and corruption is found here. Most of the typists I met had literally nothing to do. Most people get their own phone, make their own copies, answer their own e-mail. I begged the professors for work to do; I was so bored; forced to listen to the professors' latest vacation, travel, purchases. The professors are grossly overpaid for maybe 12-17 hour schedule; the adjuncts never get paid due to 6 six little old ladies sitting in a room doing payroll with a calculator and hand written time sheets. The professors are obnoxious and will kill each other over "the list" of who has the most seniority. I witnessed some very bad, catty behavior. Also, the professors stole reams of paper!

    Advice to Management

All the schools in Nassau County are over audited, but I don't think this school is audited at all. Also, so many kids need guidance and I saw a real lack of guidance where professors really didn't make time for the kids. Also, I witnessed teachers paying other teachers to teach their classes so they would not have that cancellation on their record.

    Pros

The students are great. The administration is very supportive

    Cons

    Advice to Management

They are doing a great job except they could consider giving health insurance

I have been working at Nassau Community College part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I love it here. Yes, there are politics and disagreements but so much better than the trend at many local private universities where factions exist between English and Composition departments (and Comp is treated like the ugly step-sister).

    Cons

Tough to get in full time & lots of flux in the administration the past few years.

    Advice to Management

If NCC could get their administration in tight order once and for all, it would be an even better place to work for the stability.
