I worked at National College full-time

    Pros

Easily, the students that want to be there are the best motivating factor about the job. Some coworkers are great, others are cowardly, gossipy, and backstabbing much like any other place I guess. Coworkers include campus directors and down the line from there, adding visiting directors from hq that came in for training. Pay was satisfactory.

    Cons

The cowardly, gossipy, backstabbing coworkers, and the high schoolish cliques they created among each other and even student workers. The alienation is obvious, but overlooked by management because they are a part of the childishness too. It was ugly how students were dumped from classes in corporate desire to free up space for a certain kind of student ... those not relying on tuition assistance from government grants. Forced to call prospects bringing military educational benefits multiple times a day to ask them for any updates on when they could start, and many asked to be removed from the call list that they were going to find somewhere else to go. It was embarrassing calling someone you just called that day and left a message for, or had just spoken to the day before and they had not made a decision, but it was a pushed part of the job and if you do not meet their "non existent" quota, well . . .

    Advice to Management

Frank should fire himself. From the many meetings and smug comments made about how the paying students really are just numbers to their bottom line, I wish the consumer could hear these things because this company would cease to exist. But go ahead, keep treating folks the way you think you can treat people to make a dollar, and watch how all that works out for you in the end.

I worked at National College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Offers a lot of opportunity for individuals that are considered non-traditional students to experience college and learn and develop skills in careers that are in demand.

    Cons

Focuses on student enrollment and not the students' individual achievement. This is very unfortunate because many of the students that come to the college are performing below average in reading, math and writing skills. As a result, many fall through the crack and drop out.

Hires administrators and managers that are not qualified. Administrators and managers that are bosses not leaders and do not process the skills or intelligence to develop and guide the staff professionally.

Racist and sexist organization. Diversity does not matter. Narrow- minded in many aspects of diversity. Still does not recognize MLK Day as a holiday. Turns away qualified minorities in administrative positions.

Pressures and eliminates non-minority administrators that do not display or accept bigot behavior.

Supports known chauvinist to exhibit racist and bigot behavior that are employed with company.

    Advice to Management

Hire administrators that are trained and qualified to relate and develop all professionals - higher academia levels. Administrators should hold master and doctoral degrees. Do not hire managers and administrators based on race that exclude minorities. Diversity impacts and grows a company or organization. Hiring a diverse staff in all areas could help the retention of students. Minority students need to see minority employees and instructors that are respected by the school.

    Pros

Good way to gain teaching experience.
    Flexible day and night schedule.

    Cons

A lot of work for little pay.
Policies require you to treat the students like high schoolers. (Attendance tracking, field trips, guest speakers, etc).
The quality of students is lacking.

    Advice to Management

Respect and value the good instructors that you have.
