I worked at National Defence and the Canadian Forces full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Training, experience, team building, weapons handling, travel.

    Cons

If you have another job on the side as well as being a reservist, things tend to be a little difficult for higher up in command to understand.

I have been working at National Defence and the Canadian Forces part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Challenging and interesting work environment, many opportunities for advancement and courses. Very cohesive work environment with great coworkers. Good pay and benefits for a student.

    Cons

Work environment is very demanding. Being outside for weeks at a time in the cold and rain starts to get old after a couple of years. Organization is lacking at times, it seems that people often get loaded onto courses only to be sent home once they get there because they weren't actually on the course

    Advice to Management

Be more understanding of the fact that some of us are full time students and can't make it out on an exercise the weekend before our exam period starts. Stop punishing people who do turn up for work because of the people who aren't even there.

I worked at National Defence and the Canadian Forces full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Learn about yourself, your limits, your ability to work with others No chance to spend money while you're on base so you end up with a good amount If this doesn't get you fit, nothing will Do things civilians will never do

    Cons

Experience shooting guns and running around with heavy equipment doesn't necessarily help your resume The hourly pay is very, very low Ration packs Getting orders from those above isn't always easy, considering who is actually above you

    Advice to Management

None - this is the army, you need structure to function
