I have been working at National High Magnetic Field Lab full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

My group is constantly encouraging its members to improve themselves personally, academically, and scientifically. There is a very healthy and collaborative environment.

    Cons

There is a very good golf course and an Olympic pool right beside the laboratory and the day is too short to play a full 18 holes, swim a few thousand meters, and work 8 hours

    Advice to Management

elongate the days so I can play golf, swim, and work most days of the week. Thank you.

I worked at National High Magnetic Field Lab full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of academic freedom, wonderful administrative staff, extremely helpful support staff including maintenance / facilities, machine shop, cryogen support staff, and electronics support staff.

    Cons

A large NSF supported bureaucracy. Your work WILL be supporting lab users. Expects frequent progress reports for NSF site visits and grant compliance.
