    Pros

They can make the right things that will make you feel important and welcomed. Very stingy on raises. Won't hesitate to cut people.

    Cons

Very political. Management thinks they know everything. The attitude is my way or the highway. HR exists - but work for themselves.

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes and ears. Put people first. The company has so ouch cash - invest in people.

I have been working at National Institute for Health and Care Excellence full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good staff benefits - carer's leave, NHS pension, cycle to work scheme, flexible working options including working from home

    Cons

Slow to effect change, constant staff changes and management of change due to Department of Health funding cuts. Very hierarchical staffing structure and some senior managers are a bit power crazy.

    Advice to Management

Be a bit more flexible about changes to working methods etc.

I have been working at National Institute for Health and Care Excellence full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible working, nice office, office in good location and easy to get to by public transport.

    Cons

Slow. Too many directors and AD's who get preferential treatment regarding flexible working i.e. directors work fraction of their hours from home from the opposite side of the country attempting to manage their teams in an office - doesn't work. Demoralised staff. No responsibility for directors and AD - they are not in the real world. If your face doesn't fit you will not get any type of promotion. Not a friendly atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of all the managers - directors, AD's, programme managers.

  11. "Too little focus on people, too much on results"

I worked at National Institute for Health and Care Excellence full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

NICE is an international company, with a big cultural diversity. The products they sell are overall pretty good and innovative, and receive a lot of praise within the market.

    Cons

There is a very high focus on quarterly results. This often results in rush-jobs, high workload, burned-out people, which again leads to a high turnover. Customers are complaining about this, and the lack of attention they get. There's a lot of focus on selling things, but once the sale is done the focus quickly dwindles.

    Advice to Management

Make your 'Account Managers' responsible for the satisfaction of their accounts, and not on making their quarterly numbers! Focus more on your employees, so that they stay longer and can build up a healthy relationship with your customers.
