    Pros

During my internship at National Instruments I was able to work on interesting, real-world problems alongside many smart people. It was a great learning experience, and they offered opportunities along the full stack of hardware and software development. The program did a good job of finding apartments for the interns and getting them involved in activities around the city.

    Cons

The development environment may not have suited everybody. It was an open office layout at the time I worked there, but developers were tethered to their desks since the company used desktops. This worked out fairly well, and I'm not sure there's a great way around it due to the special hardware requirements of many of the devs. An agile push was going on during my employment, and it felt somewhat forced/against the spirit of agile.

    Advice to Management

Continue providing a relaxed, welcoming environment. Perhaps give more independence to the product teams. Keep up the good work on the internship program.

I worked at National Instruments as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very chill company culture, could hang up college flags over your cubicles and dress-code was very relaxed. The work was interesting and there is room for growth from within the company.

    Cons

There wasn't too much that was bad about NI, the only thing I can say is that it is very much a large company and has a large-company culture and mentality.

I have been working at National Instruments full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

NI's involved in many interesting engineering challenges, and it's exciting being a small part of that. There are tons of really impressive engineers to work with and learn from.

    Cons

Their tools and process to get some things done are either non-existent or from the '90's. I'm told there's long-term work to resolve some of this, but it can be pretty frustrating at times.

    Advice to Management

Invest in modern technologies and dashboards to help engineers make data-driven decisions.

I worked at National Instruments (More than a year)

    Pros

NI provides a lot of structure to employees. I hadn't necessarily had a ton of experience and the on-boarding process was formalized and easy to learn.

    Cons

If you're not an engineer it's tough to be respected by them. All executive leadership have technical backgrounds and opportunity for advancement is slow. As much as they say they promote internal promotion, there are very long expected transition times. Raises are very regimented, I was given a promotion and never received a raise due to the timing of the calendar. Big reason that i left.
