I worked at National Kidney Foundation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

My experience at NKF overall wasn't bad. The atmosphere of the company was pretty laid back and everyone was very friendly. The environment and the people who put in good work. They truly believed in what they did and helping people.

    Cons

Some of the departments were rather clique-y and sometimes different groups kept closely to themselves. Other than that it wasn't too bad working there.

    Advice to Management

Pretty good overall. Hiring and promoting from within was a huge plus he company gets credit for.

    Advice to Management

hire leaders that are secure and qualified, don't just get warm bodies

I worked at National Kidney Foundation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The volunteers and clients you interact with on a daily basis

    Cons

It's not a traditional nonprofit. The company tends to think of the bottom line BEFORE the mission. There are a lot of less experienced leaders with little to no support.

    Advice to Management

Remember the mission. Fundraising and nonprofit work is NOT sales. It's just not.

I worked at National Kidney Foundation full-time

    Pros

Ok benefits.. relaxed work environment. Nothing else that I can think of.

    Cons

No direction. No measurement of whether or not the work is actually benefiting the target market. No vision. No long term plans or goals. No opportunity for advancement unless you're best friends with the CEO, who is totally unqualified to be CEO and only comes to work when it's convenient.

    Advice to Management

Wake up. Start working 40 hour work weeks and critically analyzing your programs. Challenge the status quo.

I worked at National Kidney Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good health coverage, flexible work hours, friendly environment

    Cons

Little to NO communication, Management style is top-down with very little explanation or direction, CEO/President is M.I.A. as are rest of senior-level directors. No clear vision is being promoted to team, so it is difficult to stay motivated. Very little opportunity for upward mobility.

Worst of all - pay is meager.

    Advice to Management

Wake up CEO/President. Try being present and paying attention.

    Pros

Mission of the organization, working with patients and volunteers

    Cons

Poor senior management, unethical business practices, lack of qualified senior staff, does not encourage work/life balance (e.g., calls at 10PM), high turnover of staff.

    Advice to Management

Need overhaul of management and 360 reviews!

    Pros

Good location and felt like I was helping a greater good

    Cons

I felt misled the entire time since I started working for NKF. Some people are amazing that work there but others are extremely two-faced. In the end I think they wanted to save money and do more work with less people. Any feedback at all was always good, yet hardworking people were left in the dust in the end. I have a feeling I am not the first nor last. Really dishonest management.

    Advice to Management

BE HONEST, have team time, get to know each other on a personal level ever, give encouragement when deserved, let employees know if they are not meeting standards, start thinking like a trustful non-profit.
