I have been working at National Kidney Foundation full-time

    Pros

Working and interacting with volunteers and patients is nice.

    Cons

    Overall bad management and communication

    Advice to Management

More resources and staff for field offices. Management only cares about numbers and not the people we are supposed to help. Too sales oriented and that turns people off. The organization has too wide a focus.

    Pros

The work is meaningful. It helps people live healthier lives with a scientifically proven method to reduce the risks of Type 2 diabetes. Great friendships form in the classes too.

    Cons

The chances to lead groups isn't frequent enough to make the training pay off. It would help if it paid more. It is a quasi volunteer position the way it is structured.

    Advice to Management

Have fewer coaches and find a way to market the classes better so they fill up with no cancellations at the last minute for low enrollment.

I have been working at National Kidney Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The organization is in "growth mode" and brings the opportunity to be bold, creative and innovative. I've found the work to be mission-driven and professionally challenging. I've also found that I'm able to work both collaboratively and autonomously. There has been a culture in my almost 2 years of NOT sending/answering Emails past 6pm and NOT on the weekends.

    Cons

Growth mode means leaning into the organization without fear - it does mean weekend work related to programs and fundraising events (walk golf, galas)meeting and exceeding revenue targets, being a fearless fundraiser and tireless advocate Chronic Kidney Disease awareness, prevention and treatment. All of which aren't so much cons as they are the opportunities within the organization.

    Advice to Management

Keep the foot on the gas pedal while continuing to focus on culture of the organization.
