I have been working at National MI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Absolutely the best group of people I have ever worked with. Everyone is engaged in helping to grow our business and offer excellent support and customer service.

    Cons

Really not anything. For someone looking for quick upward mobility may be limited. Not a negative for those willing to dig in and grow with the company.

I worked at National MI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Looks great on paper! People seem to care & can even be very nice when you first get there. But if you need something from your leadership like training, help, guidance or what to advance... Watch out... You just made an enemy of your supervisor & they will throw you under the bus first chance they get... There's your real culture...

    Cons

Executive team is very disconnected from the reality of what the real culture is in the departments (trenches) and what they envision they have created. Everyone with a director title or higher is really just a "yes man" (or woman) that shields the challenges they face with their staff from upper management & honestly just looks out for them selves. There is no real care, direction, or concern of what happens to...

    Advice to Management

Stop worrying about your bonus, who will get credit for the next project and who you can blame for your short coming's and pay attention to the loyal employees who work hard & want to advance. They deserve it...

I have been working at National MI full-time

    Pros

Fast-paced, challenging work. Culture is respectful and camaraderie and teamwork is encouraged. Most of management make an effort to keep employees happy.

    Cons

It's a small company so growth opportunities are limited. Not all of leadership appears to embrace the culture - some departments seem pretty unhappy.

I worked at National MI full-time for less than a year

    Pros

my hiring manager was great, but they let him go 2 weeks into my tenure. free parking, manager offices have nice views (but the cubes dont get to see sunlight).

    Cons

This is a warning to those who care: NMI is the least innovative company I have ever seen. There is no passion. Too vertical; too many managers and nobody knows what they are doing. Values are backwards and there is no governance. Changing roles, managers, staff every few weeks. People get hired for job A, but end up doing something else. Only interested in hype like stock gets added to an index (while the building...

    Advice to Management

There are far too many middle managers with no clue and support staff thats junior varsity waste of money (humans doing things that can be automated). Your salespeople get away with whatever because you let them. Hire people that can do the whole job, give them the rope to do it and watch what happens. Flatten out your org chart (if you even have one). Not kidding here, when I asked for an org chart I got 3 boxes...

I have been working at National MI full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Management is transparent, quick to acknowledge and implement employee feedback, benefits are great, and colleagues are smart, motivated, and fun to work with!

    Cons

Nothing to note. Maybe give us even more snacks??

    Advice to Management

Do what you can to maintain the existing culture. It's great and wouldn't want anything to change.

I have been working at National MI full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The company was built on the idea that the customer is number one. The staff was hired around the idea that we will work hard, but enjoy our work and the people we work with. The company has grown and worked hard to keep these two mindsets. Leadership, as a whole is excellent.

    Cons

Promotional opportunities are somewhat limited, partially due to no movement by employees (good for the company though). Although there are a lot of excellent employees, the same ones continue to be recognized while others who do outstanding work are overlooked.

    Advice to Management

Continue to appreciate your employees for the good job they do. Don't let the same people continue to be the only ones recognized.

I worked at National MI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The compensation is quite good for a company of less than 500 people. Senior Management are engaged. there's a real spirit of team work that encompasses vendors and employees.

    Cons

It seemed like everyone was working long days (which also speaks to commitment). the location of the office make the commute difficult.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at National MI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Throughout my time at NMI, I've seen the company grow from a startup to a fairly established mid sized company, and I'm impressed that they've managed to keep the encouraging and forward thinking mindset present at the beginning. While they absolutely expect top performance, they reward their employees well with fair compensation and excellent benefits. Executive team is approachable and friendly, and they put a...

    Cons

Pro/con (depending on your side of the spectrum): this a very sales-driven company. Sometimes, this equates to unreasonable expectation placed on operations, IT etc. While I've had a great experience with advancing my career at this company, I do have to say they lack an internal structure that encourages growth - the individual really has to take initiative to move up from within, and that can create a negative...

I have been working at National MI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The CEO is great, he cares about the employees. Most of the staff are friendly and like to make work fun. This place is busy, however. You are expected to get your work done without goofing off all the time. Most managers are supportive and do their best to provide tools to support their staff. Most departments are flexible with shifts and/or working from home which supports work-life balance. They offer lots of standard...

    Cons

Challenges are slow computer network at times. Small cubicles with little privacy. Some people naturally speak loud and it can come off as being disruptive and people complain. Company awarded stock vests after 3 years, about 33.3% per year. Traffic is very heavy where the corporate office is located. There seems to be less company organized social events. Lots of people bring stinky food into the office and instead...
