    Pros

Interesting products. Lots of travelling available.

    Cons

    Remote and dingy field locations.

    Advice to Management

Inter-company transactions (due to upper management dictates) sometimes have very low quality experience and service that go unreported.

I have been working at National Oilwell Varco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good People, great safety team, and the employees embrace "the suck" as a team. This place could be great but it's definitely lacking great leadership and direction.

    Cons

Employees are left in the dark regarding management decisions. Employees (some) are asked to take on additional task without any extra compensation, this has been going on for about three years. Only the knowledgeable, hardworking employees are tasked with additional responsibilities, there are many that do their one job as required. The management treats staff like minions.

    Advice to Management

Give incentives to those that have earned and deserve it and treat employees with respect.
HR needs to be more humanized.

I have been working at National Oilwell Varco full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Plenty of work without additional compensation

    Cons

Company is too large and has lost the quality of service that we can provide. NOV continues to grow and buy more companies while relying on the same few to learn the new products and become the experts that this company once had

    Advice to Management

If NOV were to compete with the drilling companies compensation we would be able to keep the more skilled technicians and would not need to rely on constantly training techs. The workload gets pushed on to the rest of the team to get everyone trained up in which comes without additional compensation.

I worked at National Oilwell Varco full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The product is phenomenal, it holds the potential of revolutionizing the Oil & Gas Industry

    Cons

Management seems to have a finely honed ability to demotivate, disempower, divide, and bureaucratize; their behavior indicates they seem to believe they are omniscient and rarely leave their ivory tower except to go home; seemingly constant turnover and reorganizations at the management level; almost continuous shuffling of employees between departments.

    Advice to Management

Climb down from your tower and actively gather input from the people doing the work and actually use it; I suggest you get your act together before your patents expire and a competitor that has their act together takes what little you have left.

I have been working at National Oilwell Varco full-time

    Pros

Able to move easily within the company to grow your career and move up. Plenty of opportunities for growth.

    Cons

Average pay is very low and no pay increases for past 2 years with promotions. Keep bad management on staff that pushes or forces good employees to quit.

    Advice to Management

You should grow and train your staff that wants to succeed and entice them to stay versus under paying them and they leave on their own.
