I worked at National University of Singapore full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I had to enter at least 5 words for Pros.

    Cons

inter-departmental politics; a lot of time spent doing work to prove that you're doing work (assessments / evaluations / KPI etc); meetings for the sake of holding meetings (an indirect way to prove that work is being done...related to previous point); fear about chain of accountability -- nobody takes charge or takes risks b/c of a fear that, should something go wrong, the heat will fall on them. These issues existed within my own department as well as within OHR as well. OHR was continually evasive and failed to address the root of my grievances (they went unresolved throughout the entire course of my employment). In one instance, instead of resolving an inquiry with my directly, they began discussing my inquiry with other members of my office, which I felt was a gross violation of confidentiality and professionalism.

    Advice to Management

celebrate and support your staff; let them grow.

I have been working at National University of Singapore part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

good place to study and work you will meet great professors and students
you can find good labs as well

    Cons

too crowded since this school has accepted a lot more students than before and resources are provided enough for the new increased number of guys

    Advice to Management

make more resources available to students and quickly finish all the construction sites and places shifting. focus on quality not only on quantity

I have been working at National University of Singapore full-time

    Pros

Flexible Working Hours. Minimal supervision (dependent on supervisor).

    Cons

No career prospects. Very bureaucratic working culture. Lots of long and tedious admin processes especially on yearly performance evaluation. Very ridiculous safety practices for staff.

I have been working at National University of Singapore full-time

    Pros

    School environment

Freedom to decide on project approach

    Cons

People are suffering from technophobia (very dependent on IT team to do tasks in the system on their behalf)

Work in silos (do not view IT projects as strategic and do not bother preparing and giving full participation and requirements)

Felt no different from a vendor because every meeting is about reporting progress

Superior "attacks" his/her own team in front of HOD instead of understanding the situation and work things out.

    Slow progression

Work/life balance is compromised due to compulsory duties required on a number of after office hours activities

    Advice to Management

Do all you can to cleanse the culture

I have been working at National University of Singapore full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Able to work with bright students and the reputation of NUS convenient working with external (outside of NUS) partners.

    Cons

Indecisive leadership with senior management. Constant change in direction.

    Advice to Management

Do walk the ground instead of relying on feedback from directors and HoDs where they present mainly the "nice" picture instead of the "true" picture that you require to make management decisions.

    Pros

There is a good work-life balance here at NUS and people are friendly. Stress is minimal and there are very little internal politics.

    Cons

For those who are seeking to build your career, it may be better if you look for other jobs as it is pretty stagnant here as the jobs are catered more for retiree... Very little career progression.

I worked at National University of Singapore as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

met some nice people there whom i had a good working relationship with, easy to get around, good and cheap food from the various canteens and cafes around there.

    Cons

Some pretentious and political people who do not do things ethically and will only be nice to people who are useful to them for their advantage. Not as welcoming a place as some will think unless I just happen to be unlucky and get to work with some. A place that money has been spent wastefully when it can be put into better use.
