I worked at Nationwide Financial full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Worked at company for almost 10 years. Very stable employment. Roughly half of the employees has been at the company for >10 years. Good culture, transparency from executive leadership, lots of opportunity for promotion or internal transfers to further career growth. Offers tons of vacation time that scale with length of tenure.

    Cons

Almost impossible to get fired or laid off, so a lot of people clock in, sit at their desk, and wait to clock out. It's frustrating to the high-performers. Slow pace of change, lots of bureaucracy. Outdated technology. Compensation seemed to be below average for most roles.

    Advice to Management

Clean out the ranks, offer more competitive pay and bring in some higher performers to start seeing results.

Worked with IT business consulting division and they were pretty geared up to use some advanced tech. IBM Watson, bitcoin, behavior routing etc ... Excellent work life balance, and super friendly colleagues and managers.

    Cons

Sometimes the organisations appears to be pretty laid back. There are several employees with more than a decades experience. Creates a comfort zone !

    Pros

Low level management is relatively good and helpful to find the right position for and connect with employees. There is a great amount of discussion around synergy and employee engagement, including occasional team-building, offsite trips. The company does a good job of training their employees and keeping them up to date with the technology they use.

    Cons

There is a large disconnect between the employees and upper management. There is a lack of trust between fellow coworkers, leading to rumors. Senior employees don't stick around too long since the company is unwilling to pay a high enough salary for their experience.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the employee engagement, pay the senior employees enough not to leave the company, and discourage rumors.
