I worked at Nationwide Financial full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Meet lots of people. Pay is pretty good. Professional people. You can work 9 to 5 (although that could hurt you and not get you raises). It all depends what department you find yourself in is what I hear.

    Cons

Structure is getting overburdened and it can be difficult to relate to management. Competition is getting heavier and heavier. There are getting more and more layoffs.

    Advice to Management

Make it work for your employees despite all that is coming to you from the top. If you let the overburdened structure hit your employees you won't get performance and you won't want to work there.

I have been working at Nationwide Financial (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great opportunities for professional development and work/life balance

    Cons

Group think, silos (large, complex company with specialized functions), can become typecast

I worked at Nationwide Financial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is large, obviously, and profitable. Everyone in town has immense respect for the brand and it feels like you're part of something. Lots of respect for family and duties at home, at least that's what I experienced.

If you're in the right area, you can achieve a very high level of pay.

    Cons

They don't always like it when you achieve very high levels of pay (commissions my team earned internally on wholesale activity)

I was there during a time of upheaval so I really can't judge, it was a tough time for all involved. Definitely a BIG company with politics and lots of keeping everyone happy, but again it was a time of reorganization.

I hear it has gotten alot better and everyone I talk to is pretty happy to work there! Just be ready to put on a good face and work for the good of the firm. It's common sense.

Don't take things personally or get cocky to try and stand out, they respect a passionate team player who puts his head down and does the work. Voice your ideas but don't expect them to be adopted quickly, or at all. Just do your best and don't squander the opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Less playing favorites when it comes to promotions and more focus on numbers and production achieved, though I understand we have to like who we work with. Thanks for the opportunity to spend a couple years there!

I have been working at Nationwide Financial full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of opportunities to grow within the company, had over $5K that can be used for education reimbursement, work with good people, and I get lots of management exposure. I can work from home and work remote when needed.

    Cons

Communications between departments are poor, projects that get started lose steam after a while, and there is a lot of holes for mistakes to happen because people won't take ownership.

    Advice to Management

Be mindful of cracks - a process that no one owns or a frequent issue that arises because someone forgot to send an email - and fix them before they grow.

  10. "Intern Program"

I have been working at Nationwide Financial as an intern

    Pros

Able to view other professions inside the company.
    Not limited to 1 role.
    Diversity is amazing!
    Location: Downtown Columbus is beautiful
    Cares about employees
Will most likely get a job offer if you intern

    Cons

Can't think of any so far
