I have been working at Nationwide full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hourly pay, benefits, friendly co-workers, quick raise if you can hang in there, good OT during catastrophes.

    Cons

Micromanage, benefits (see below), no sick days, earned vacation

    Advice to Management

Only good for the money, really. Co-workers are nice. Earned vacation time each check (many companies do this now) and it must get approved at least 3 weeks in advance. Vacation time is used for sick days. If an employee gets sick and doesn't go through the FMLA process, the employee gets written up ("occurrences" are what they're called).

Benefits are good at a cost. Medical and dental benefits come with really high deductibles (employee can't choose health benefits that only have a co-pay).

Call center reps are turned off about staying home if they get a flu because they don't want to pay for the doctor's visit and go through the annoying FMLA process. That means a heightened risk of another employee getting sick all the time. I and a few others were constantly sick because of this.

Customers' livelihoods are always on the line in this arena, so the need to service each customer well can be stressful. Some supervisors micromanage, adding to the stress.

I worked at Nationwide full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere, engagement driven, great place to work, generous time off and benefits.

    Cons

Working in a call center is demanding with not a lot of autonomy, but that is to be expected.

I worked at Nationwide full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great co-workers who are dedicated and friendly. Great middle managers!

    Cons

Senior Leadership is stuffy and conservative and out of touch with the employee job requirements and challenges. Senior leadership only cares about how good you make them look and has little regard for the individual contributions of the middle managers and staff. Senior leadership lacks diversity proportionate to the customer base they serve.

    Advice to Management

Treat people like people not numbers and reward high producers with advancement and recognition .

I worked at Nationwide part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

over all company is very liberal and open minded. They don't care about Tattoos or wild hair colors. Most area's allow jeans now too.

    Cons

You can't even get up to use the bathroom without an FLMA form on file. Call centers run on numbers, they don't treat staff as humans. Things have improved but they are always hiring as most of the hiring classes 1/2 quit within 6 months or less.

    Advice to Management

Actually give the work life balance they offer for call center staff.
