I have been working at Nationwide full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Very pleasant work environment, laid back atmosphere, almost impossible to get fired, new office building.

    Cons

too much turnover, especially in management. i have had 4 different bosses in the past 12 months. low pay compared to others in industry. difficult to move up, too many lateral job opportunities. cracking down on work from home opportunities.

    Advice to Management

dont be so stingy with promotions. realize that working from home should be a readily available option, especially for high-performing employees

I worked at Nationwide (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Nationwide has some great employees that care deeply about the organization.

    Cons

Nationwide has been slow to react to challenges it has faced. The current changes involving cuts in commission, pensions etc were necessitated by prior inactivity.

    Advice to Management

Perhaps more focus on performance and less focus on propaganda would be appropriate given the company's performance trend.

I have been working at Nationwide full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nationwide has been a wonderful company at which to work for the last 9 years. I started as a contractor and came on as a full-time employee 5 years ago. The people I work with are all dedicated to doing their best work and the company supports its employees when they want to branch out into other roles. The company also has a vested interest in the community, taking a lead role in both hunger relief in central Ohio as well as United Way.

    Cons

One main downside to working in the downtown location are the elevators! The population density on the floors is not equally weighted so that some elevators are always busy and some never are.

    Advice to Management

Continue to communicate to all employees the near and far-term vision for the company so that everyone is aware of how their individual jobs contribute to the success of the business and our members.

I worked at Nationwide full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

gave options for advancement, provided equipment and space to work, gave the option to work from home (although irregularly), friendly managers

    Cons

Constant inconsistency, quality checked on processes that were changing daily and the changes were not communicated regularly, always in fear for my position

    Advice to Management

Please be consistent. Help your associates understand the changes that come down the line. Please stop getting rid of entire departments at the drop of a hat

    Pros

Fair pay for position; average benefits; good PTO (around 20 days plus holidays); good advancement opportunity.

    Cons

Difficult to get hired outside of Des Moines, Columbus, or Scottsdale; Claims auditing is a bit absurd; a bit tight with the expense account.

    Advice to Management

Allow all attorneys to expense CLEs, regardless of whether they are in an attorney role. Hire more trial division attorneys.
