I have been working at Nationwide full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The values that Nationwide exhibits is unusual in my experience. They encourage associates to become involved in many community activities, to work at food banks, and donate blood. Also, in most cases they really seem to take an interest in doing right by associates.

    Cons

Pay could be better. Terrible review process where managers level their employees against other employees.

    Advice to Management

    Change the leveling process.

I have been working at Nationwide full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Brand name that is very recognizable to consumers, public marketing via TV, some helpful underwriters to work with

    Cons

Very difficult to write policies as Nationwide is very strict about who they will and will not accept, when I was hired I was brought on fresh from receiving my license and never trained in the office and written up for not meeting "quota" my second month in (while also never receiving appropriate tools such as the obvious - business cards, not allowed to purchase my own either - leaving me looking unprofessional. Feel I was set up to fail.

    Pros

Hard work gets recognized and promoted.
Great opportunity to learn about insurance and help our customers.
Many chances throughout the year to get involved with the community.

    Cons

In claims, sometimes you speak to customers who are unhappy.
Being mobile is important if you want to continue to move upward.

    Advice to Management

Continue to make time to speak with associates on a regular basis. It is important to see the leaders walking around and interacting with people at all levels.

I worked at Nationwide full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Was a great company to work for 10-15 years ago

    Cons

Turned into a very unethical company. Hires solely based on diversity rather than the best person for the job. If you have a family and a family life and want to keep it stay away from Nationwide. Believe me, they are not on your side as a company. Many self centered ego maniacs only looking out for their own self interests.

I have been working at Nationwide full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great management and benefits. One of the last companies to offer a pension. Management seeks and listens to feedback from those who report to them. Personal and professional growth are encouraged and celebrated.

    Cons

It's a large company - change happens either very slowly/not at all or it happens all at once with little or no warning.

I have been working at Nationwide full-time

    Pros

Hours, Base Pay, Work at your own pace, Holidays off, 10 paid Holidays off per year

    Cons

Small offices so when people don't show up the work falls on you, turn over rate is high, commission work is stressful at times

I worked at Nationwide full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Stability, team environment, opportunities for growth in entry to mid level career. Many ways to be involved with community work.

    Cons

Not much opportunity for women to advance to Senior level management positions.....salary less than other insurance companies in the industry.

    Advice to Management

Listen to associates. Create career path opportunities for associates to cross-train in other areas of disciplines. Less micromanagement.
