There is a lot of opportunity to move within the company allowing you to obtain a breadth of skills. The ESDm (Enterprise Solution Delivery methodology) processes used for projects are comprehensive. The use of Yammer (internal facebook-like site) to capitalize on the employees collective knowledge. Very supportive of training. Has its own internal weekly radio broadcast.
Cons
Difficult to advance unless have breadth of cross-departmental (~3-5 positions) experience. Change in Management about every 12 - 18 months, which reflects the internal cultural expectation (I was told if I was in the same position 2 years that was too long). Low job morale (I suspect it is due to constant change in management and direction). Political.

Pros
decent benefits, great work enviroment and the best employees around at my branch. Lower tier management is amazing and let you do your work and are there if you need help but not to be dictators.
Cons
low pay, cutting back on benefits, 401k match could be better but alteast the have a roth. Could be better career map layed out.

Nationwide is average

Good benefits, family type atmpsophere to an extent, caring and concerned managers.
Cons
Compensation is not comparable with other companies. They recently removed most of their field reps and have downsized. If you want to advance you will have to move to OH or other big cities. Upper management does not seem to be in touch with the day to day operations and procedures of handling claims.

Great company. A lot of opportunities for growth within the organization if you work hard and network.

Excellent company values. Management are easy to work with and do a good job at making you feel valued and appreciated.
Cons
Could be a little more competitive with salary

Co workers are a team and there are great opportunities to get noticed during catastophe operations. The technology used there is better than 90% of competitors.
Cons
There is no compensation for the level of work and complexity of claims that the position is responsible for. Management is slow to decide due to uncertainty of processes and causes stress in the clams process.

Pros
You get the opportunity to work with some great people and learn a lot about how different functions of insurance work.
Cons
Management is clueless and too concerned with their next promotion to really care about their team. If you play the office politics well then your career can grow, however if you do not play office politics well you will not be happy there.

Liability Adjuster
Jun 17, 2015 - Non Injury Liability Claims Adjuster in Denver, CORecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Easy interview process/Always hiring - PTO starting is 18 days with options to donate blood and get more PTO - Young crowd in non-injury claims, cool coworkers
Cons
- LOW starting pay for industry standards and they say that in your 6-8 months you get a huge 20% raise, but that's not s guarantee--- And they expect you to work nights and weekends or any open shift that they need you to work - Claim work load can be very overwhelming and unmanageable and management doesn't seem like they care to even out the claim load between shifts - VERY 'mid west' company with no innovation for the future- Management is stuck in the 'old' way of business like having a strict dresscode (when the job is 90% on the phone... who cares if I'm in jeans, I can do my job just fine) - Office politics.. Depending on your manager, it can feel very micromanaged- If you finish your work 10 minutes early and want to leave, depending on the manager you could 'get in trouble' - Time commitment to the department you are hired in is 18 months, which can feel like forever and when the 18 months is up there are about 20 people all trying to get promoted to the same open position - Unfair 'grading' system- some managers give promotions and bonuses to those who they like that do not preform well at all... It matters more that management likes you, not the quality of the work you do - At the end of the day, it's claims- you're talking to upset/impatient people who expect you to bend over backwards for them and they still yell at you for not doing enough. No one understands their policy coverages and a lot of the time you're 'wrong' when you had nothing to do with the issue at hand. It's a very thankless job.

I love being here.
Aug 14, 2014 - Software Developer in Columbus, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
First off, I work as a software engineer. We have a very relaxed workplace. We use industry standard tools, which means I very rarely have to work on something I can't use on another project/job. Also, I don't have to spend time writing stuff that already exists, is better tested, and also already free. Nationwide's infrastructure team is hands down the best I've ever experienced. Releases happen on very well coordinated schedules with plenty of support people on call. Both management and IT are both supportive in allowing me to try new tools to help get my work done. The gym is also super handy; I use it every day. Lots of opportunities available.
Cons
Can be slower paced than other places. Salary slightly below other places.
