Good benefits, good pay.

Good Benefits, Pay and Management. Everyone is a team player. Great if you love talking to people from all over the states and problem solving.
Cons
Sitting all shift. you get 10-15 min breaks 2x a shift and a 30 min lunch.

Slave mentality workplace -do not recommend
Aug 21, 2020 - Claims Specialist II in Scottsdale, AZRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good salary, benefits are mediocre. The amount you have to contribute for your benefits and the deductible is high. The office is very nice and the cafe is ok, Free garage parking and tight security is nice.
Cons
Unbelievable claim load, impossible to manage. Average adjuster has a minimum of 90 to 130 claims at all times. Performance goals can't be met with this claim load. Executive level management is not proactive at all, does not listen to the employee's input and there is never enough staff employed to handle the work load. Managers do play favorites. High turnover and several people are out on stress leave due to the constant claim volume overload. Leadership is terrible.

Pros
Nationwide fosters an environment of engagement and encourages growth within the company. I have had the opportunity meet and worth with some very talented and intelligent people whom I genuinely like.
Cons
It's a large corporation, so you have to deal with all the typical red tape that comes along with working in that environment. You often feel that you aren't judged on your ability to do the job, but rather on your ability to meet metrics.

Started out great, ended being the worst job I ever had.
Jan 3, 2018 - Systems Analyst in Columbus, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
There are genuine people in the company that really do care about their customers and what they are doing. The ‘core’ of the company which is helping other people is honest and sincere. I have been in elevators with multiple CEOs taking about how even though they had to pay out for storm damage that is what they were there for. Great flextime. Come in when you want as long as the work gets done. Need to make up hours, just do so on the weekend. Sick family member, just go take care of them don't worry about it. You can work with really amazing people and make great friends. Facilities are top-notch for a downtown building(s) (minus Agile spaces.) If they do decide to laid you off they give a generous severance and time to find a new job.
Cons
When I started five years ago I was the ‘rock-star’ on the team. I transferred to a new team and everything fell apart after that. You have way too many individuals in managing positions who do not understand the work that their subordinates do, or that are not properly equipped for the task given to them. I have seen several times groups thrown into specific roles with little or no training to maintain the responsibilities given to them. Lean processes are used to remove individuals who speak up against being treated poorly. Don’t like that we remove your wastebaskets, we just ‘lean’ you out. Don't like the standing desks and 'standing' well you're too close minded so we'll just reorg your department without you in it. New buildings are all crowded little cubicles with no walls and no privacy. You have no privacy, none! People will be screaming and laughing loudly when you’re trying to get work done. When you complain managers will tell you to find a meeting room or put on headphones instead of correcting the bad behavior. Too much trying to be like Facebook/Google in the IT space without consideration for those with disabilities. The IT agile methodology does not work and is the downfall of creativity in American society. The constant so-called modernization of the modern office does nothing more to delight the millennial to believe they are being paid more than they actually are, and isolate everyone from Generation X up. No one who actually wants to accomplish something at work enjoys these environments. Most of the day is the younger group standing around getting nothing done while the adults actually are trying to work and getting headaches. Nationwide does nothing to correct or remove employees who have inappropriate or bad behaviors. Someone is allowed to be a complete jerk to you and their supervisors will even support them. Marketing and IT will literally fight over processes to remove employees they don't like. If you don't play the nice game and 'suck-it-up' Nationwide will not be on your side. Office of Associate relations and HR are completely incapable to take care of and assist employees. I attempted numerous times to find a new role within Nationwide and all I received was automated responses. When I finally did receive feedback, it was another case of a manager not knowing the technology or the business need. Nationwide’s Health Benefits plan are extremely disappointing. You are forced to give up your vitals otherwise they will deduct money from your paycheck. Too much process in the wrong areas and not enough trust for qualified employees to do their job, and then over-compensating for employees or are inadequate. A lot of unqualified people get promoted because they can 'walk the walk, talk the talk.' Don’t have a standard family (wife and kids) or belong to a minority group (woman, gay etc..) you won’t fit in. Single people over 40 are also in the firing range for being fired. As typical with most businesses they hire a lot of contractors from external countries who do not know what they're doing. They stay for a while make money to send back to their parents and then leave at the critical time of the project. A lot of talk of transparency and speaking up, but when you actually do you get criticized.

The job is not worth the pay
May 16, 2022 - Claims Service Representative in San Antonio, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You definitely meet some great people and they have decent benefits with lots of time off and even overtime opportunities
Cons
The training is rushed, they expect way too much out of you with minimal knowledge. You get 0.0002 seconds between calls and cant even take a quick drink or bathroom break. You get yelled at for things you cant control and you're forced to lie to members to make the company look better. if you value your mental health i would avoid any call center

Great company to work for, very difficult job.
Jul 28, 2012 - Customer Service Representative in Gainesville, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
They do a great job in the call centers to keep the employees happy and to promote teamwork. Everyone there was really nice and seemed to really care about the people on the other end of the line. They care about the mental well being of their employees. I worked there during hurricane Katrina and they brought in first responder therapists for the CSR's.
Cons
Working in the call center is mentally taxing.

Not impressed
Nov 9, 2015 - Sales Representative in Des Moines, IARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Definitely some good people in the company that made it an enjoyable experience at times. The gym and cafeteria were definitely a perk.
Cons
There were constantly people getting let go or leaving and was always a training class bringing more in. Not a great environment to work in.

Pros
People I work with within my sales team are great and fun to work with. Good benefits and salaries are comparable to other major insurance carriers.
Cons
Sales leadership team does not develop their Sales Managers. The company is losing really good employees every day. Associate engagement is very low and leadership doesn't seem to care. Internal processes have been in a constant state of change and overall strategy of the company seems to change every year.

Pros
People are generally easy to work with and engaged. The company is very stable and does try to keep employee satisfaction high. Promotions are very possible for people with desire and that will work to improve their skill set. It is a generally very steady company and the senior leadership is visible and accessible.
Cons
Like many companies the Red Tape is huge. Slow to change and when you are looking for advancement it can be a who you know vs what you know situation. Pay is low compared to the market. When managing employees it can be extremely difficult to terminate the person.

No longer a great place to work
Feb 27, 2019 - IT Specialist in Columbus, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-Good compensation and benefits packages. -Online training resources available. -Good amenities at the downtown and Grandview campuses.
Cons
-Layoffs are now common and executed without understanding of the capabilities and contributions of the people being terminated. -If you aren't part of a high visibility project, you have limited value in the eyes of management. -Company is obsessed with project management trends / jargon regardless of actual real world value.
