A Great Place to Work
Oct 6, 2021 - Manager, Process Management in Columbus, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Open lines of communications from top down; hyper-focus on development and providing tools/resources to continue to grow; great people
Cons
Salaries may not be as competitive but the great culture and flexibility makes up the difference
- Current Employee, more than 5 years★★★★★
Pros
Friendly culture and environment Generally open minded with management A lot of resources and benefits to use, programs to help you, discounts Alot of networking opportunities and activities Do a good job with recognition and focusing on your development in general Educational opportunities
Cons
Can be very competitive with promotions HR restricts salary increases and promotions for certain roles (can’t jump pay bands at all or easily) Promotions move slower then the way should and the pay isn’t hugely competitive compared to other companies

Pros
The people that I have worked with our great. I have had a great amount of flexibilty when needing to take time off on short notice, leave early, or even work from home. For me this a tremendous value since I have a family and young children.
Cons
I would not say that there are that many cons. Probably the biggest thing I would say is pay. I have had a few different roles in my time there. They have recently made some salary adjustments in some departments because they realized that they were below the market.

Claims Associate
Feb 16, 2017 - Associate Claims Adjuster in Canton, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Nationwide is a great company to work for. The benefits package is the best I have seen. The workload is manageable. You have a lot of tenured people and there is always someone with a wealth of knowledge to answer any questions that you might have. You can gain experience in cross training and it is a great first job out of school.
Cons
Only downside is there is very little room to grow. Once you are an adjuster- it is near impossible to become a manager. It takes at least a decade of experience to move higher up. You can make smaller moves laterally but as far as management goes, that is a tough challenge. Another con is the raises are not great. They are minimal at best. The goal sharing makes up for this a little bit. The salary isn't great but again its a good first job out of college.

Feedback on position
Nov 22, 2021 - Field Property Adjuster in Denver, CORecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Absolutely loved the management and the team I worked with. The customer service was fairly easy as the policy coverages are wide enough that it is rare to give bad news.
Cons
Too much turnover, the team is always leaving due to a sometimes overwhelming workload. The Denver area gets hammered with hail claims every season which lingers throughout the year. I was unable to increase my salary for the exception of annual bonuses, I started with 0 experience and my salary reflected. However I excelled quickly but was only able to receive the annual salary bonus increase of whatever % was available. I felt I was not paid for my skill level in comparison to my peers.

Tenured employee saddened by changes - not for the better
Aug 22, 2013 - Claims Specialist in Cleveland, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
We have an exceptional manager who has a total open door policy; decent benefits and salary/recognition.
Cons
Redundency. We've seen changes in claims AVPs routinely every several years. Each time they bring changes that tend to make the process more complicated for no need. There are essentially 'too many chiefs" depending on their loyal subordinates to maintain status quo.

Great place to work if you want to work your career there
May 3, 2023 - Specialist in Columbus, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good benefits, flexible work environment if you're not in sales. Can be easy going work if you find a niche you like there. Lots of opportunities to move around the company after you work there for a bit. People sometimes work here their whole life and are satisfied & happy.
Cons
If you're there to work on computers, or Salesforce, or in IT- there's not a lot of growth opportunity after a few years. Salaries here are lower than Market and you need to keep changing jobs to keep pace with COL- they balance this with pretty good benefits. There are a lot of older business/IT/management mindsets here and it causes apprehension and slows down progress. This company is very conservative.
