    Pros

Level II Trauma Center, Employees care for each other and their patients. Nurses who stay at Natividad stay because they like the Mission of the hospital and like the clientele. Not to make money.

    Cons

It's County facility, therefore things tend to move slowly.

    Advice to Management

Every department is important. Every person is important.

    Pros

-Technologists are in charge of the specialties as opposed to Nurses.
-Technologists have a dedicated office to help out with overall function ability of the department.
-Technologists have a big say in how to make things better and management is very receptive and reasonable.
    - Various Shifts available 12's & 8's
    - Union
    - A good mix of cases because of its Trauma II Accreditation.

    Cons

-They burn out their techs. Equating in High turn over, how high? over 24 techs in a 1 year period. For a 5 O.R. Facility you be the judge.
-County hospital, and this means a lot of red tape. Board of supervisors has not a clue how surgery works and have no sense of urgency in the purchasing of very crucial equipment.
-Things work at a very slow pace due to multiple obstacles.
-Hospital makes a lot of money but does not invest in its staff in a competitive way.
Technologists pick their own case carts as opposed to the SPD department.
    - Due to budget constarins they can only afford new grads and this results in burnout of experienced staff.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your Staff. Prioritize equipment, technology and supplies because its all what surgery is about. Listen and act upon staff concerns in a timely fashion with direct feedback on greviances at hand.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Natividad Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

With a 30 minute lunch, nice to have options in the cafeteria. I also met a good friend in my department. Benefits are okay, considering YIU are a County Employee.

    Cons

Kind of like being in grade school with your supervisor breathing down your neck and micromanagement is their specialty. You may be entitled to a annual wage increase but if you get a raise, at the most you will receive .50¢ you can also plan on staying in your same position forever until someone retires or dies. No potential for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Learn to value all employees and quit with the favoritism.

    Pros

County hospital that doesn't look like a county hosp. Patients are respectful of the hospital.

    Cons

The Nursing Admin is run by travelers who appear to be only out for themselves. Not much integrity to be found amongst the leadership. Stay as afar away from this place as you can.

I worked at Natividad Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The only good reason to work here is that it's close to the Monterey area, and the work life balance is OK.

    Cons

Poor pay (no bonuses), bottom of the barrel IT work, no respect, disparate job duties (actually, really disparate job duties), no clear focus, no cool factor. Hospital IT is not cool or respectable in the IT world like working at the giant techs or start ups. And, it can be a stressful gig since they're always pulling their analysts in all sorts of directions.

    Advice to Management

Pay your IT staff more. Otherwise, we're going to jump ship for the Silicon Valley where the IT salaries are easily over $130k.
