I have been working at Navigant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Growing firm with lot's of projects. Sales pipeline seems to be growing.

    Cons

    1. Horrible raise (2%) and weak bonus. May be explained largely by company pursuing significant inorganic growth, leaving lower cash reserved for generous pay. Lost many good people shortly thereafter.

    2. Significant turnover rate among its physicians.

    3. Company more interested in supporting its needs, rather than supporting the professional needs of the consultant. There is no balanced give and take in this regard.

    4. Bodies on the ground at client site for some projects, which brings little return in exchange for significantly increasing the risk of burn out. This includes having bodies on the ground during holidays.

    Advice to Management

Put yourselves in the shoes of your employees more often, otherwise you risk loosing top talent.

I worked at Navigant full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The salary was good and the yearly bonus was decent. Good benefits and you have the opportunity to work with some very smart and talented individuals

    Cons

If you are hired onto a team where the leadership (I.e. Director/Managing Director) is not transparent in regards to the project pipeline then you will fill like you're just flying by the seat of your pants. There is a lot of favoritism exercised which causes further division amongst team members. There is no collaboration or,opportunities to work on cross/multi function teams.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent and provide a realistic state of the union view. Layoffs or downsizing of teams can be avoided if lower level staff (i.e. MC's, SC's) are allowed to participate in sales presentation and provide leads for future opportunities. Don't stifle the growth of your staff but instead utilize mechanisms and incentives that will tap into uncharted potential and help drive new business

    Pros

Smart and nice people, interesting work, great benefits, good work/life balance (depending on the your group), very young people, clear path to advancement.

    Cons

Poor management, no perks, little flexibility, no cohesive culture, people do not stay for long.

I have been working at Navigant (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good experience early on in your career if you get staffed on a good project/team, opportunities for growth if you work hard and stand out.

    Cons

Work can be boring, company mission/vision is uninspiring. It all really depends on which practice area you work in. They're all very different.

I have been working at Navigant (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Smart individuals. Constant focus on growth. Interesting projects if you seek the right team. Variety of professional backgrounds on staff.

    Cons

There can be a lot of bureaucracy. Managers often hold onto their resources despite need in other groups. Competition over generation credits on sales can lead to less collaboration.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate the competition which kills collaboration while maintaining the incentives that keep the employees motivated. Give a more clear path to promotions all the way to the D level.

    I worked at Navigant full-time

    Pros

Good entry level jobs to gain experience in healthcare billing. Competitive salaries for entry level jobs of this area. Good work life balance.

    Cons

Soon as you get your experience get out. The company grew fast and middle management does not have experience to make good business decisions. They drive away the good employees and embrace the toxic ones.

    Advice to Management

Unprofessional team leaders make a very toxic environment.

I worked at Navigant full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Co-workers can be a joy to work with if you have the right ones.

    Cons

Benefits are bad. Every office does its own thing with no central policies and communication of any changes does not exist. You learn by making the mistake and then spending hours finding out why what you'd previously done for years no longer works. Also a gossipy, backstabbing environment.

    Advice to Management

Centralize your policies so they apply across the board in every office, don't leave it up to the OM to decide. Get a better benefits package with better raises and bonuses which were below market standard.

I have been working at Navigant full-time

    Pros

Great people. Navigant somehow manages to hire some of the best people out there. You will be delighted and humbled every day by how smart, accomplished, and nice are the people around you.

    Cons

No clear vision, no sense of accountability anywhere, general lack of leadership, and what feels like below market average pay with skimpy bonuses. Lock step promotion cycle the criteria and process for which are not clear at all. Bureaucratic processes that feel like they were lifted ten years ago from a company ten times the size.

    Advice to Management

Think about the future, every day. Stop doing things one way because that is how things have always been done. Embrace the fact that Navigant's people are its greatest asset, and act accordingly.
