I worked at Navigant full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked at Navigant for almost five years, Navigant has a lot of good people who are smart, motivated, fun, and dedicated to delivering excellent work. The company also implemented more flexibility for employees (flex-time, option to work remotely). Great opportunities and exposure to high profile clients if you are capable. My boss was supportive and a great mentor. The CEO visits offices and personally thank her employees.

    Cons

Growing pain- middle management has to maintain utilization while training junior staff on or outside projects with tight timeline and budget leading to some overworked managing consultants and associate directors.

    Advice to Management

Give more support/internal budget to project work training

I have been working at Navigant full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

(Warning: I have worked at Navigant for 4 months, but the consulting company I worked for previously, for 3 years, was recently acquired by Navigant). Navigant seems to really cares about the development of their employees. The management team puts in a lot of effort to assure lower level employees are given the opportunity and feedback to grow, and succeed. Navigant does a pretty good job of creating a culture that supports a sustainable work-life balance, which isn't common in management consulting. Although I have only been here for 4 months, I am pleasantly surprised with the emails our department receives when employees leave the company, as they employees have a very positive view. These employees typically state the following... 1) That they have been with the company for over 4 years, 2) that they love the employees they work with, and 3) that they learned a lot along the way. This is simply an observation, but still, a very promising one.

    Cons

I haven't been with the company enough to give a negative. I am sure some will come about but at the moment I haven't been exposed to them.

    Advice to Management

I don't have any advice for management at the moment.

    Pros

Good co-workers; interesting and changing work assignments. Job allows for reasonable amount of autonomy. Company has a good reputation in the industry.

    Cons

Management is not good at communicating across project teams to manage consultant's commitments. Compensation incentives for higher level personnel is not transparent which makes understanding motives for decision making murky.

I have been working at Navigant full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Navigant is very flexible and accommodating with how you work, whether it be remote, flexible hours, part-time, etc. They also have pretty good benefits overall. The opportunities to move up are many, particularly for self-motivated individuals who are willing to step up where they see needs. The work is steady too.

    Cons

Due to the nature of consulting there are many pressures from clients expecting things now, even if it is conflicting with other deadlines. Also, in my area there are definitely major crunch times when everything seems to be due at once. One area I wish they were better with is 401k match. They match 3%, but they could increase that to 6% like some competitors.

    Advice to Management

    Increase company match on 401k.

I have been working at Navigant full-time

    Pros

The people that I work with are really great. There is a lot of autonomy in choosing the people you work with and the projects you work on. Lot's of opportunities to work on interesting things and find new challenges.

    Cons

Generally the focus is on quarterly profits without much of a long term game. The financial rewards are low.

    Advice to Management

People are your biggest asset in consulting. Put employees before the shareholders and everyone will win.

    Pros

    - Company size
    - Exposure to senior leadership
    - Project diversity
    - Learning opportunities
    - Flexibility of work hours and places

    Cons

    - Compensation is not on par with boutique LS companies
    - Diverging cultures between different verticals of the company
    - Work life balance is not stable; sometimes very good and at times very unpredictable

    Advice to Management

Management should improve training opportunities for junior staff and encourage more collaboration between different practices. This collaboration should not only be focused on the D/MD level.
