I have been working at Navistar full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I work with some great people including my Manager. I can't say that is true for the entire company.

    Cons

HR is worthless. There are no training opportunities. Corporate in Lisle is treated like royalty while other locations are treated like sweat shops. The productivity at Lisle is abysmal, productivity at other locations is above average. There is monthly celebrations at lisle for turn around and the other facilities are under budget constraints. Health benefits are spiraling down.

    Advice to Management

Wake up and realize who is putting in the extra effort for this turn around. Get rid of some of the dead wood middle managers who are waiting to retire. Give some fair raises, 3% over two years is not a fair raise. You will continue to loose good people and only retain employees who can't get jobs elsewhere.

I have been working at Navistar full-time (More than 8 years)

    Cons

No vision for future of business or employees.

    Advice to Management

    Stop being insestuous.

I worked at Navistar full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

My coworkers were a wonderful group of people who truly wanted to drive the business forward into the 21st century.

    Cons

This is a very dusty industry that talks about changes and uses analytics as a popular talking point/buzzword, but is not seriously invested in improving. The organization does not embrace analytics for the most part, which makes this a very frustrating environment to experiment and implement modern analytical processes.

    Advice to Management

Wake up. The industry, and the world, is changing. The heavy equipment market has shifted and the oligopoly has been disrupted. It's time to be competitive again, take calculated risks and truly differentiate your products. Slashing costs is a short-term fix, but not exploring opportunities and new methodologies ultimately strangles a struggling institution in the long run.

I have been working at Navistar full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great work life balance. CEO Troy Clarke is leading Navistar in the right direction.

    Cons

Lots of favorism to less talented younger engineers who get promoted. Not investing in veteran talent. Suck ups move up fast in the company.

    Advice to Management

Beyond help. Hopefully VW buys Navistar out and cleans house of management. Needs new culture.
