I have been working at Navistar full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Work environment and culture are good. Many efforts are being made by senior leadership to provide the proper resource to optimize the business.

    Cons

The truck market is extremely week leading to low profitability. Morale is low as well at many of the plants due to low production orders and uncertain future...

    Advice to Management

Continue to push change and transformation especially in the areas of design and reduction of complexity. Provide the right resources and the turnaround will continue.

I worked at Navistar full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Highly focused on delivering customer needs and wants across a global product base. Great experience among peers with strong emphasis on quality and timely delivery.

    Cons

Difficulty implementing new methods and approaches within the engineering process due to senior leadership lack of understanding/willingness to listen and observe first-hand challenges. Disconnect between expectations and requirements, and lack of communication/trust between manager and employee. Many leaders have prior careers from automotive companies; Navistar does not produce engineering designs and meet sales in the same way as the auto giants.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to understand the work that employees are doing and the systems and approaches currently used so that improvements can be made, rather than screaming that another deadline or target cost wasn't met.

I worked at Navistar full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Dedicated workforce, good physical working environment, Historic and proud US company, makes solid products, has great potential to return as a strong manufacturing company.

    Cons

The company lost it's way with bad upper level mgmt. decisions some years back then mgmt. confusion about how to move forward slowed the recovery process. Experienced and talented people have left due to cost reductions etc. and remaining employee workload has been increased.

    Advice to Management

Bring in younger talent, give them adequate roles and provide knowledge transfer as the older managers / employees begin to leave. This will decrease turnover, help stabilize continuity of business processes and reduce burden of change mgmt, Review business processes for relevance and make changes where necessary to improve time to market and customer service.
