You will end up working lots of overtime NFCU has a negative image in mortgage. You will be working hard to break the stereotype from some agents. NFCU is trying to figure out the streamlined process

    Pros

Good benefits, decent salary, good people to work with, HQ gets lots of extra stuff but nothing for the field employees

    Cons

Boys club mentality, FAVORITISM!!! It's the branch employees that do all the work. You need to remember that when listening to employees.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. You put out an employee survey but then don't like what they say.

I have been working at Navy Federal Credit Union full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Navy Federal is a large reputable company with good standards and morals. There are many opportunities for growth and a great career path. They offer their employees many benefits above and beyond what other companies offer. Navy Fed also prides itself on never having a lay off.

    Cons

In the particular department I was working in they were severely understaffed. They did not want to hire extra staff for the amount of work necessary and they were requiring mandatory overtime of at least 10 hours a week. They also hire temp workers in certain departments who do not have access to the same benefits. When business slows down they get rid of the "contractors" to avoid laying off their own staff.

    Advice to Management

Find a balance of hiring the right amount of employees to do the workload that is sustainable.

    Pros

Good location and some of the perks and benefits overall for its employees, the banking side is fun. They have the best mortgage programs in the industry like no PMI required etc but comes at a cost...

    Cons

Compared to other mortgage lenders the compensation is at the lowest when you compare to other lenders, the annual pay of $35K per year with occasional overtime pay. You are given a company phone and have to be on call after hours until 9pm and have to be available from 9am to 9pm on weekends and holidays and there is a base pay of $1400 per year to be available which calculates to $1.63 per hour... There is no compensation...

    Advice to Management

In order to keep talent you need to have an attractive company to work for and compensation is one of the top things loan officers look for. The unrealistic work loads and not paying a realistic compensation are uncalled for as a typical loan officer in the field will not have 80 loans in their pipeline... having a huge percentage of the processors as temps then letting go does nothing but makes the workload worse and...

    Pros

    Benefit Package and great products

    Cons

Mortgage process from beginning to end is complete chaos. Misinformation to members is standard operating procedure.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to take short cuts. Put the loan officers back in the branches and let the members do the apps with real loan officers. Get rid of your Pal-ex letters and start providing some actual approvals and quality service to your members and their Realtors. Use qualified trained processors and stop processing files backwards. Order escrow, title, voe's, vors and appraisals etc.. up front. Get them back and reviewed...

I worked at Navy Federal Credit Union

    Pros

Benefits were very good, cost were not too expensive and their 401k was great. Training was good as well.

    Cons

Manager managed the clock and never trusted employees to do their job. Micro-manager and never seemed to be able to delegate and if she did, she took credit when others did the work for her. Made herself look busy with a lot of busy work and never helped people who were struggling and needed assistance. Very petty and high school like. Favorites were obvious.

    Advice to Management

Lead your team, don't be happy with being mediocre. Don't plan something and do it half way. Lastly, treat others with respect and they will respect you. Don't talk about other employees to their peers.
