I have been working at Neenah full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

My pay has risen steadily in the 8 years I've been here. The benefits are great, and haven't declined like most employers. They are willing to invest in their employees, including schooling opportunities and on-the-job training.

    Cons

With the industry declining, there is a constant need for cost savings. Recently, they've had to eliminate some jobs, although they found other places within the plant for those people. The mill manager is changed out often. The current one has told us he's looking to cut jobs, which doesn't instill confidence.

    Advice to Management

Overall management is good. It's obviously a high pressure environment for them, and they are consistently challenged to attain better performance from assets. The turnover is a little disheartening, especially because every time we get a new mill manager, he makes promises to cut hours or jobs.

I worked at Neenah full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Work schedule flexibility dependent on machine run schedule - Tons of low hanging fruit (projects) to work on and freedom to take on new projects and spend money - Plant manager has a good head on his shoulders, but is too disconnected from issue at hand - There were so many good people in low management...

    Cons

    - Site still not profile after 3 years - Site losing 1/2 of their business earlier this year and slow to recover - Lack of attention to basic quality and basic chemical safety requirements - Lack of accountability by several members in management team - Watch for bait and switch tactics if accepting a job. It may not be the job you applied for - Most employees are "Silo'd" by mid management. No communication.... Most of the lower management trying to keep communication stream flowing - Senior leadership is disconnected from the issues at hand on the floor level and has been making no effort to connect with their lower salary and hourly staff - Union contract is excessively lenient preventing removal of any employees short of committing a felony - Career growth is linear, you are waiting for the next person to either move up or leave the company - Upper management calls for change but makes no effort to drive it. Good policies in place with no enforcement or ability to enforce due to lenient union contract - Company is not merit based and high performers are not promoted for their work - Expect high salary turnover over the next 6 months at this site

    Advice to Management

    - Get rid of the mid and low management that is lacking accountability for their responsibilities and lacking leadership skills. It's been 3 years and it's time to stop limping along. Nobody likes letting employees go, but it's a necessary task for a successful business. Keep the strong salaried employees and grow your team - You have all the right salary employees in all the wrong locations. Place people in the... jobs that play to their strengths, not their weaknesses. It will take a couple months of adjustment, but will provide long term benefits. - Promote employees based on merit, not favoritism - Do what you say and live by it - Change the union contract to protect good performers and remove poor performers - Head the advise of your consultants and SME's. They know the process and the US market quite well

    Neenah Response

    March 19, 2019

At Neenah we believe in transparency and appreciate concerns being brought to our attention. With regard to Benefits Comment: Since 2004, Neenah has had very few changes to the benefits. Many companies cannot boast this fact. Our employees continue to do their part with preventative health visits to keep high value medical and dental plans available to all. The benefits are reviewed annually and continue to remain above comparable benefits in the industry. With regard to Career and Comp Comment: Neenah offers many opportunities for career growth and development such as on-the-job training and experiences, classroom learning and learning through and from others. In addition, all employees are eligible for an increase every year along with Neenah’s unique philosophy that all employees are eligible to participate in a variable incentive plan.
