    Advice to Management

I hope that temp employees who are a good match and blend well with the team are considered for permanent hire. A lot of time and dedication goes in to training and learning during the time you are here.

I have been working at Neighborhood Health Plan of RI full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Management and HR seem to work very hard to make this a great place to work. People are always friendly in the hall, at the coffee machine, etc. There are little perks like a mini store where you can buy snacks, drinks, sandwiches, etc and they provide things like plastic forks, ketchup packets, and other little touches that other companies see as an unnecessary expense. They are working on a complete renovation of...

    Cons

The building is a bit crowded. Some of that is a product of the construction and some of that is because the company seems to be growing faster than the space can accommodate. Finding a conference room is especially challenging, and right now there is not really a good place to eat your lunch away from your desk because they are working on the cafeteria. Also, change is hard. There are some people, probably the ones...

    Advice to Management

Keep listening to employees and moving the company forward to be more efficient. Don't be afraid to fire people who are not doing their work because keeping them on the team brings the rest of the team down.

I have been working at Neighborhood Health Plan of RI full-time

    Pros

    1. Good team members (the key factor that is enabling most workers to stay) 2. Good feelings from being able to serve common citizens needing health insurance in RI

    Cons

    1. Micromanagement is the default culture (at least, in one large team of 40+) 2. No remote work or work-from-home flexibility 3. Abusive managers (causing emotional trauma and breakdown level stress) 4. Constant fear of getting fired 5. Outside consulting firm managing internal full-time employees 6. No respect is given to lower level employees 7. Internal politics between different Orgs within the company 8....

    Advice to Management

Read the above Top 10 Cons list and start the clean up from the top down. Instead of terrorizing the employees, letting go of a few directors and mid-level managers will automatically begin the healing process.

I worked at Neighborhood Health Plan of RI full-time for more than 10 years

      Pros

Usually had a five day work week and intermittently OT. Hourly paid. Worked here for over 10 years.

      Cons

Management was always bleeding the budgets and payroll ranks dry $$$ under Obamacare and created special positions and new titles for themselves in IS with raises beyond their ranks while bleeding the rest of the staff dry and promoting their friends from another company over tenure employees. Just got tired of the nonsense.

      Advice to Management

Heard a discrimination lawsuit has been filed against Neighborhood. It was in the Providence Business News Edition. Plus Neighborhood was cited for FMLA discrimination from US Labor.

I worked at Neighborhood Health Plan of RI full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

37.5 hour week is wonderful. Benefits really great.

      Cons

Folks are great, but managements personalities are troubling. They rule the place. HR is unhelpful and like to play mind games with employees. They only serve to hush you down and make you think your the issue. Its so bad the company purposely is not doing the its due diligent to survey employees. This is a company wide epidemic that higher ups won’t even touch with a five foot poll. How many more folks much leave for...

      Advice to Management

Listen two employees. Start cleaning house starting with those in management. Bring in new folks with real talent who can turn things around.

I have been working at Neighborhood Health Plan of RI full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Neighborhood is one of the best places I have ever worked. The company has a culture of caring both for the members and employees, which is refreshing. The benefits package is very generous and thorough. There are also many opportunities to have a positive impact in the community. The company does a great job of living out its culture

      Cons

The company is working hard at taking action to improve on some of the growing pains in recent years. Having three locations can be difficult at times.

      Advice to Management

Continue to find ways to sustain growth with little impact on members.

I have been working at Neighborhood Health Plan of RI full-time

      Pros

Work keeps you busy and intersted

      Cons

Too much growth without a foundation for stability and future sustainability. Upper Management is too critical of employees in a controlling manner. It comes across as a deflective motive to compensate for what they are lacking in terms of management process and organization.

      Advice to Management

Listen to employees about pain points. And actually listen when they speak.
