The energy within where I worked was very down tempo it needs a lot more energy & teamwork!

I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time

    Pros

Beautiful place to work, smart engaging employees

    Cons

Not enough shopping traffic coming into the store to make a decent commission only paycheck.

    Advice to Management

If you want happy employees pay a hourly base plus commission. Forget putting your employees into the "rears" its just to stressful for people knowing they will have to pay back the Company store once a decent amount of sales/commission is made.

    Pros

Excellent work/life balance with an upscale high end retailer. Operating hours are the best you will find for retail environment. Good opportunities for advancement if you work hard and always fair and professional. Being relocatable is very important to promote. Management team is fair but with high expectations.

    Cons

Overall an enjoyable workplace environment however could stand to work to increase morale more effectively. Too much internal strife and feuding among departments.

I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay and benefits, fun and challenging. Loved most of my coworkers. Learned customer service and sales skills from the best. Fabulous discount.

    Cons

It's still a sales job even though you're not on commission. You have the constant stress of making your goals. Is you make you're goals they are raised every season. If you miss your goals then you will be threatened with losing your job. Not much upward mobility.

    Advice to Management

Remember that most of you were in our shoes at one time and 99.9% of your employees are trying their hardest. No one responds well to threats.

Neimans needs to go back to the old model of luxury. Not fast fashion.

    Pros

Great discount, easy job, no pressure, can be fun, stress free

    Cons

low pay, expected to sell merchandise but not offered a commission

    Advice to Management

You have to really connect with the management in order to advance within the company. Management positions are often filled by people that do not currently work at Neiman. They should hire more internally. There is a strong disconnect between management and general associates. You really do not feel appreciated but at the same time I have never been treated in a negative way. You just show up and work and not much is said or communicated to you by management. They like to protect their jobs so they do not promote people that might threaten their jobs.
