    Pros

Beautiful store. Store GM is great. PR is great. Some dept. Managers are good, most coworkers are helpful.

    Cons

Few really bad coworkers ruin the environment. Not working as hard as others. Some workers receiving special treatment for being managers pet. No equal opportunities for all, management not facing the issues and definitely not supportive to grow into higher position. New HR not doing anything good for all staff, almost putting staff in fear, all staff is miserable not afraid to lose their job so they don't speak up. Very uncomfortable place at the moment. I've been here over a year and some people in the store have never even said hello to me. 15% Pay cuts. I've heard rumors of employees getting fired due to fellow coworkers ganging up and complaining on them so they loose their job. Very uncomfortable environment. Toxic, I wish I never worked here.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your staff or you will lose all the good employees you have. Take a deeper look at top commission sellers, some sales are past to them by vendors. HR really needs to work on treating people like real hard working people, I would say the new HR is a huge red flag to all current employees. Please encourage people to grow into management, or other positions available. You are losing very talented people that are willing to grow within. My previous dept manager here was rewarded in the past for doing good job, and in reality mistreated the entire dept. of employees while a few favorite people got special treatment and promotions. Extremely unprofessional. Please ask each employee if they are happy where they are, I hope you get an honest response.

I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time

    Pros

The only pro I can come up with is the company discount...which still doesn't make it affordable by any means.

    Cons

Bad management. Long hours (0 work/life balance). No overtime pay. Forced to constantly be on call having to wake up in the middle of the night. Impossible deadlines. They can't keep anyone in the position it's so awful.

    Advice to Management

I'm not even going to waste my time as the company isn't interested in improving based on feedback. In the yearly company meeting they would show the top employee feedback, which was always the same, and they never do anything.

I worked at Neiman Marcus (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    401k matching
    Rollover vacation and sick days

    Cons

The more you delve into this company and learn the ins and outs, it is apparent that they are in over their heads. There is a complete disconnect between all departments. Instead of focusing on typical financial situations of our time as opportunities to change and grow, they tend to turn a blind eye and instead focus on the things that make the least financial sense. If focus should be on online sales, why pump money into new stores such as the new Neiman Marcus in NY where there is already a Bergdorf, especially when you are already in so much debt?

Upper management has been blinded by their egos and have completely lost sight that times are changing and they need to stay hungry and open to change. The company will spend massive amounts of money to have a consulting company come in an "re-imagine" the company, but the problem is that the people at the top that could implement these changes simply won't, because they are scared and lack the confidence and real business sense to stay up to speed with competitors. It used to be a point of pride to work for this company, however sadly it's reputation has been tarnished by the inability to stay fresh in a consumer market that is saturated with so many other means of obtaining luxury merchandise.

The company talks about how the customer is always first, however they have proved time and again that this isn't true. The way that employees are treated is even worse. There is little to no support now that they have had two big layoffs in less than a year. Everyone is doing the job of 12 people but getting payed for less than one person. There is a negative spin on everything and those that treat people the worst seem to get the farthest without any repercussions. The "open door policy" is a huge joke, as is the HR department. If you enjoy a negative work environment, being disrespected and degraded on a regular basis then this is your place.

    Advice to Management

Instead of letting your egos get the best of you, how about treating people with respect - customers AND employees. Kindness goes far and people will actually want to do business with and work harder if you actually do care. The Neiman Marcus name can only go so far, and it's not looking so good now. Next time you clean house, start at the top and then hire some young, fresh talent that IS hungry and WILL make a difference. Otherwise, have fun filing for bankruptcy!

    Pros

Mon-Fri with occasional a weekend and there were some good people there. Management is very disrespectful and often attempts to demeanor employees in front of everyone. Wouldn't recommend this degrading job to anyone.

    Cons

Unprofessional and disrespectful to employees with no recourse from HR.

    Advice to Management

Communication and open-door policy towards ALL employees, not the chosen few.

I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Employee discount, Neiman dollar rewards, learning latest fashion trends, meeting the vendors, product knowledge, health and dental benefits 401k plan

    Cons

Commission based, associates will go to any lengths to make a sale. Management not at all helpful and plays favorites with higher selling associates. Long hours working days & nights, wknds & holidays. Same customer come in everyday in which case your expected to entertain them. No room for advancement in the company, and theirs always some reason why you can't take your vacation when you need to. Your basically a just a crab in a barrel. After 12 years with the company there was never any mention of a pay increase.

    Advice to Management

Associates deserve guaranteed pay for their work. Human resources should have some kind of enforcement in place for associates who feel it is ok to steal other associates clients information

    Pros

Great people to work around. Most are friendly and treat you like a person. Discount on additional discount days are nice.

    Cons

Management does not want to listen to new ideas. It is evident especially when you look at the current business.
