    Pros

You become friends due to chaos

    Cons

The HR department is a revolving door. There is a serious problem that stems from lack of director support. She isn't there for her team and as a result you get trampled on. It was challenge to work there because there was no real transparency. When I asked why people left the hr team, it was a giant mystery. Truth people leave for dissatisfaction or they are pushed out.

    Advice to Management

Judging by the constant posts for positions at NMD there is still a problem there.

    Pros

    The discount can be decent.

    Cons

Negative corporate culture, tools to do your job are out dated, executive spending and bonus structure is part of the reason the company is in debt. Greedy inexperienced senior management gives little care to the long term growth of the company. Many think they are celebrities or royalty in retail but outside of NM they are a joke.

    Advice to Management

CLEAN HOUSE or sink like the titanic.

    Pros

    Iconic name
    Generous employee discount
    Great brand community
    Beautiful merchandise & store layout

    Cons

Weak leadership, awful management with big egos.
Most employees are intimidating, condescending and unprofessional.
Company resists change to improve business. They lack vision, direction, have no clear, defined strategy.
Lack of teamwork and willingness to give Associates the resources to be successful.
Company shows no appreciation and are not respectful to their associates and the brand community.
Poor communication - listening is not a priority, lots of interruptions, leaders disregard input from team.
    Micromanaging culture.
    Unclear expectations.
Lack of systems training & processes.

    Advice to Management

Note to Ares Management: Bad leadership has caused your organization to fail and consistently lose revenues quarter after quarter. Bring in new leadership who will listen to what the customer wants to help make the company profitable and great again.

The working atmosphere is lethal due working on commission solely. It only breeds greed and dishonesty.

    Pros

    Great merchandise and associate discount

    Cons

phony people. mis-use of $: seems that senior management spends $ on unnecessary things when the company is $5 billion in debt.

    Advice to Management

Senior management needs to ensure $ is being spent appropriately so multiple rounds of job eliminations don't need to happen.

    Pros

    Great multiple discounts and product

    Cons

Executive team in the store has no clue what they are doing. All they do is make sure their jobs are secured and sit up in their offices all day in meetings or conference calls. They don't walk the store regular to really dig deep and discover why busy may be struggling. They have a poor me mentality to which they don't act but only complain.

    Advice to Management

Get a whole NEW management team in the store

    Pros

Discount, Neiman Marcus Rewards, and free products from the vendors.

    Cons

Management only cares about the top sales associates. They then run the management and control the stock, then you have to share your commission with them as well. Literally have seen sales associates argue on the sales floor in front of customers over a sale. The management has you call and text customers to come in and keep buying, the customers get annoyed.

    Advice to Management

Get your act together. Treat all employees the same. Don't treat one better because they have been their longer or have a better following.

I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Perks associated w/ working for a luxury retail company (i.e. brand perception, discount, physical environment, sample sales, etc). M-F work schedule. Promote from within culture for the most part.

    Cons

Strenuous interview process only to be brought on-board to be completely appalled and alarmed at the lack of professionalism, amount of overbearing egos, and catty behavior taking place in a lot of the offices. Buying offices, marketing and creative departments in particular feel like an all girls college sorority. Be prepared for mental exhaustion and back stabbing most times. Most people look out for themselves and like to play the blame game. Unprofessional behavior runs rampant even at the directors level. Lack of diversity is also glaring. Heard inappropriate and borderline racial language on multiple occasions but didn't go to HR for fear of retaliation. Pay is substantially low for the Dallas market and for NM to be a luxury brand. With all the financial turmoil, bad press and layoffs I suspect the environment won't improve any time soon.

    Advice to Management

If you truly care about the reputation of the company then take a good look at the individuals working in your corporate office, including those in leadership positions and even those who have been with the company for 20+ years. A lot of these people are not equipped to do their jobs or manage a department.

    The discount is pretty good

    Cons

Culture is terrible, people are not rewarded, pay is awful and the senior leadership seems to be confused on how to handle the downward trend in retail. You'll spend forever waiting to get promoted since it's not based on merit- it's based on tenure.

    Pros

Decent discount and mostly sane, loyal customers. There are some nice coworkers but theirs never seem to make it. That is all.

    Cons

Cosmetic managers are biased, uninvolved and shirk any responsibility. Upper management seems to condone, partake and encourage this behavior. Pretty much a very "mean girl" mentality. One day they talk to you and love you, the next they won't even look you in the face. Communication is nonexistent, unless you call talking about vendors and other associates they manage count. Amy time I needed help, they were huddled in their office shopping online.

    Advice to Management

    Cosmetic department needs an overhaul.
