I have been working at Nelnet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nelnet has some great benefits. Also free fruit Tuesday is wonderful. There are so many great people who work there I have alot of respect for my colleagues. It is a wonderful learning experience.

    Cons

Advancements are hard to come by unless you get in with the right people. There are so many people who are stuck in their current role. I dont feel as though they support hard work however I did obtain alot of work experience for which I am grateful. Professional feedback is hard to come by and I feel they focus to much on personal matters rather than sheer merit. There are alot of inappropriate comments I have heard in the office and there is alot of romantic relationships that seem to swarm the office. There is a complete breakdown of communication from department to department and in the office in general. The job itself is not horrible however the office life is stressful mundane and lacks professionalism.

    Advice to Management

I feel upper management needs to be held more accountable for their disregard in communication. I would also advise them to be a tad more subtle with favoritism. You can obtain great things within a company and also acknowledge that there are in fact human beings that work there. Provide better stress management for employees, communicate better as a whole and make some attempts to raise the bar for which management is held accountable.

I worked at Nelnet (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good time off package average benefits. Good life work balance only because of the time off package

    Cons

Worst management I have ever worked for most unprofessional most political and the company does not care about the employees over its bottom line

    Advice to Management

Hire more technically talented people who know what they're doing stop all the finger-pointing and fire most of the managers that are too political and don't understand the job

I have been working at Nelnet full-time

    Pros

    Many people are friendly.
Great selection of coffee in the break room.
Beautiful view of the mountains from the office.

    Cons

All product and project decisions are made by a small clique, without much regard for the rest of the team. Opportunities for growth are limited unless you're part of that clique. Management pretends to listen but refuses to take any action to improve things. Often feels degrading and hypocritical. Very difficult to work here unless you totally stop caring.

    Advice to Management

You're too wrapped up in yourselves to listen to any advice. The favoritism is apparent to everyone except you, but you benefit from it too much to change it. That's why all newer employees leave, and you're left with the same old guard, the same sub-par ideas, the same "drama" that you claim to dislike so much. This is why you're losing clients.

    Pros

Generous PTO , most co workers are friendly.

    Cons

No update training, measured metrics are not equal, training is substandard for job. Cons are too numerous to list. Unfair practice's even by call center standards.

    Advice to Management

Stop using the standard call center management playbook. Think about front line employees as truly valuable.

I have been working at Nelnet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nelnet offers a good benefits package and allows you to earn time off based on how much you work versus a set amount every year.

    Cons

You really don't matter to anyone. You can try to do your best but will be moving around for the same pay versus moving up. It is a very "who you know" environment so "what" you know won't promise a promotion. Nelnet didn't used to be this way, and had more of a positive and encouraging atmosphere. Now it is just another corporate job that sees you as a number, and the worst thing is that they have adopted the fear tactic in regards to encouraging productivity.

    Advice to Management

This place needs to pull a 360 or they are going to lose a lot of valuable employees. One of the best things I learned in school was the value of a good employee. Another was how dangerous it is to promote fear of losing one's job in order to increase productivity. I had a lot of pride in being a Nelnet employee, now I feel miserable going in to work.
