I have been working at Nelnet full-time for more than 3 years

      Pros

good insurance benefits, casual dress code, fun actives now and then, nice co-workers, somewhat flexible scheduling

      Cons

micromanaged, they track every single thing you do and how fast you do and then give you a rating monthly and if you are slower than average you get in trouble, they don;t get that averages mean 50% above and 50% below! if you are in the 50% below WATCH OUT! No room for advancement you will rot in a cubicle. Promotion from within is a great thing but they promote the wrong people.

      Advice to Management

allow more freedoms to creativity and give more responsibility to employees, they will rise up to meet them. You always bringing hammer down and tracking every key stroke makes for anxiety and resentment not productivity.

I worked at Nelnet full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Good pay for call center work

      Cons

The list goes on. Management fraternizes which each other, for starters. Relationships between employees are not only accepted but openly welcome which really can make it an uncomfortable environment, especially the ones that have apparent jealousy and do not handle it appropriately. Nepotism as well. You are safe there if you know someone, if you don’t, you feel like you are constantly on a chopping block. Communication...

      Advice to Management

Stop having relationships with each other and start managing. Recognize when you have good employees and work with them.

I have been working at Nelnet full-time for less than a year

      Pros

Performance and health incentives in place. Benefits and ETO/PTO start on day 1 of employment! Employer will pay all health premiums for the first calendar year of employment; and will pay premiums for all consecutive years in which you continuously meet quarterly health goals (such as BMI, non-smoker, etc). They let you remove attendance "occurrences" if you work makeup hours for missed work. Leadership & HR seem...

Pay is decent Offers overtime free coffee/tea

          Cons

-You have to use your 15 min break to use the bathroom. Any time outside that is an occurrence. -management is pretty inflexible -felt micromanaged and felt like management was there to punish me more than help me -unrealistic standards and employees were told if their stats didn't improve within 2 months they could be let go -Omaha location is disgusting -very low morale -mandatory overtime -high turnover rate...

          Advice to Management

Treat your employees better and the rest will come. The turnover rate is high because employees feel like their needs and concerns are not being met. Even simple things, like letting employees go to the bathroom whenever they need to.

          Advice to Management

Please work on training. There are so many things to learn about student loans and not everyone learns the same way. A lot of the people in my training class suffered because of this.

I have been working at Nelnet full-time for more than a year

          Pros

Nelnet cares a lot about culture and brand awareness. They are always looking to improve themselves, try new things, explore options. Yet they do also understand their core competencies, and capitalize on them.

          Cons

In my experience, the company is very traditional finance/business, and they have a lot to learn about their management of the software lifecycle. They are playing catch-up, and it's a messy process. A lot of people get surprised by the "churn" of constant change.
