I have been working at Nelson Labs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There is a strong comradeship between employees. The opportunity to gain new skills exist if you are willing to push to gain them.

    Cons

There is a lot of favoritism, it is one of the few companies where being a parent gains you preferential treatment.

Promotions and recognition are very hard to come by unless you are male, white, and LDS.

    Advice to Management

Please provide more training to management so that these biases don't continue.

Please focus on communication. There is a major disconnect between management and the rest of the staff. Management feel that everything is going swimmingly, and on the floor people feel there are likely to be layoffs.

    Pros

The flexibility is great, and allows you to chose your hours. People are generally nice to work with.

    Cons

pay is extremely low for the market, after the new acquisition by steregincs many incentives are now gone which means you're receiving even less. this is a great place to start a career but not a place to progress.

    Advice to Management

pay your employees what they're worth and they will stay.

I have been working at Nelson Labs full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Open gym, cafe onsite, great place to gain experience, kids room, flexible working hours.

    Cons

Pay is average for the market. Cost control measures such as limiting salary increases when promoted to less than 5% (which promotions do not occur very often) can be very frustrating. They do not incentivize hard work, and management are not held accountable for poor performance.

I worked at Nelson Labs full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people are great and very easy to work with. Good environment to work in and allows for individual growth. PTO is generous and allows to good work/life balance.

    Cons

Company events are disorganized and not directed at the general population of the company. Pay is a little on the low side for the market.

    Advice to Management

The management of the company is adequate, but accountability within the company needs to be improved. There appears to be to much room for subjectivity. Performance based measurements should be implemented.

I have been working at Nelson Labs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good co-workers, nice facilities, good location for commute...

    Cons

Staff many positions without bachelors degree, undereducated or uneducated...so if you have a few years at the company you make as much and hold same title as someone who actually finished a bachelors degree. This is horrible for employees, but saves the company a great deal of money. All it does is drive down pay for a credentialed employee. Also, having uneducated employees prepare many of the scientific materials and chemical prep does cause problems, as they often dont actually comprehend how the science works. This puts quality at risk, and causes risk to the customer. Not worth it just to save a little money. Hire educated science professionals and pay them what they are worth. We cant keep covering for the uneducated cheap workers who are doing science like they are reading a recipe for making cookies. This isnt a cookie factory. This is infectious disease control and microbiology. Hire real educated scientists with a real degree and education.

I worked at Nelson Labs full-time

    Pros

Flexible schedules, good benefits, competitive PTO and other benefits. Family like environment. Co-workers become friends and make work more enjoyable. Fun activities.

    Cons

The glass ceiling is very apparent here. Definitely have to play the game for any movement forward and even at that compensation is either very low or promises broken. Pay is super low for type of work that is expected. Growth is promoted and encouraged, but availability of growth is very slim. If you are not crazy busy all the time then you are not looked at being productive.

    Advice to Management

Have better plans for growth and movement in the company. Don't overlook employees, make promotions fair and transparent. Listen to your employees, don't just tell them what they want to hear to make them feel better. It would be better to be honest that you can't change or won't rather than promising something and giving them hope for something different or better but then nothing changes.
