    I worked at Neogen part-time

    Pros

Decent Benefits and a resume booster

    Cons

The company does not pay well and some departments expect employees to work overtime, but do not pay them for the hours.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees better. This is literalllu a complaint of 30am ist everyone I met and it would help lessen your turn over rate

    Pros

Excellent place to get beginning experience but I recommend leaving within 2-5 years of experience. The environment is lower pressure than comparable companies.

    Cons

In comparison to other companies, their manufacturing is disorganized and GMP procedures could be improved upon greatly. Manufacturing management is not great and is very reactive rather than proactive when it comes to quality issues. Company needs a good dose Lean Six Sigma and improved quality procedures. Corporate management does not put proper priority on quality.

I have been working at Neogen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Small company mindset in a large corportion, excellent people to work with, incredible diversity of people, responsibilities, abilities, and positions, and a corporate willingness for internal moves, very good benefits.

    Cons

Small company mindset in a large corporation...this can often manifest as "mom and pop" procedures. Very poor infrastructure and supply chain management, an upper management focus on "ringing the cash register," often at the expense of procedure, safety, and ethics. Very low pay in most, but not all, positions; far below industry standard.

    Advice to Management

A company that is supposed to be dedicated to "Food and Animal Safety" should probably be more concerned with its ethical reputation.

I worked at Neogen full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Learned protein purification and chromatography techniques. It was decent experience for a first job out of college, but I know my degree fetches a much higher price. Do some research to determine how much your degree is worth before applying here.

    Cons

They treat their employees as expendables. The threshold for getting fired is quite low. They undervalue their employees and pay half of what they should be making. At my salary, I couldn't afford a car payment and student loans and was losing money.

    Advice to Management

Management is resistant to change and consists of brown-nosers to the next tier up. The management I experienced always asked their superiors instead of making a decision for themselves. On top of that, they are not malleable with rules or schedules in the slightest, and no matter what, the rules apply, and strictly.

    Pros

Work with a great group of people, very supportive and everyone works together as a team. Good pay and good benefits.

    Cons

The company is growing so fast that there is a need to hire a lot of new employees to accommodate the growth.

    Advice to Management

Remember to recognize and thank the employees who work hard every day to go above and beyond to take care of the customers.

    Pros

Made friends, like you would in prison. Can listen to music, for now. Can fratrenize and get away with it.
Made my resume look amazing so I could escape this interment camp and get treated like a human being.

    Cons

Upper management is a terrible group. Misogynistic comments, fraterinization, condescending, lackluster educations, "too busy" to help or listen, doesn't even interview you before hired but will yell at you later for not living up to their outrageous expectations.
If you are good, you get every project. If you don't care, you get promoted over those who have been there for years. If you disrespect authority, they treat you better and give you special treatment. If you're female, they'll only like you if you're cute.
You work 12 hours and get asked why this or that wasn't done.
Someone works terribly slow next to you and gets paid more.
You know the science behind things? Doesn't matter, you are a robot and you aren't good enough.
Appreciation isn't in their vocabulary. False, fake, liar, hypocrite, however, are their key words for life.

    Advice to Management

Admit mistakes. Promote the correct people. Listen. Think outside the box.
...actually take advice from every exit interview.

I worked at Neogen full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You do learn a lot about animal genomics and the overall field from working here.

    Cons

-Lots of overtime (not forced, but essentially forced through peer pressure
-Horrible low wages--barely above what a Walmart worker makes for people with degrees in chemistry, biochemistry, etc.
    -Poor management
-Felt like you did not matter to the company, therefore turnover was extremely high.

    Advice to Management

Neogen has ridiculously high hiring standards for lab technicians, when they are asked to do menial labor tasks. I worked with 15 or so other DNA extraction technicians who all had high GPAS in very difficult bachelor's degrees, yet we were all spending hours scanning barcodes and punching out chunks of cow hair. Those tasks could have been done by people without college degrees and more intellectually stimulating tasks could have been done by those who did have strong science backgrounds. Use your employees (including their advice) better according to their skills or you will forever have horrific turnover.

I have been working at Neogen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's good experience for food safety fields. There is possibility to advance quickly to Territory manager when hired as inside sales.

    Cons

Pay is highly variable and unfair amongst coworkers of the same position. 'Old school' way of doing things. Expanding fast but trying to keep up I guess
