I have been working at Nestlé full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nestle is the largest Nutrition company in the world and compensates its employees accordingly. If you are lucky enough to be an employee, salary and incentive pay will be well worth your efforts. If you show initiative, you will also have plenty of opportunities to take on an endless variety of responsibility.

    Cons

Market cultures (Purina, Nestle USA, Waters) vary, but headquarters out of Vevey is often borderline delusional. From an IT perspective, their cardinal sin is consistently believing pie-in-the-sky cost savings predictions that inevitably end in disappointment. The IS IT organization has a habit of over-promising and under-delivering. As much as the individual markets might disagree, Nestle on the whole under-invests on IT and treats the organization as a cost center to be minimized rather than a source of value for investment.

    Advice to Management

Your strategy has a lot of promise, but you have a habit of shooting yourself in the foot. Listen to your markets for what they need, and trust your ground-level employees to make the right decisions. Centralized decision-making and approval is slowing you down so much as to interfere with our competitiveness.

Exercise skepticism when consultants promise large cost-savings. Look back at how many times attempts at standardization and simplification have blown up in your face and made the company less efficient. Remember that at the end of the day, you have human beings working for you, and culture devours even the best strategies.
