I have been working at NetApp full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very friendly people. Everyone is willing to help.

The top level management are doing a really good job at motivating employees and providing insight into the company's plans and future.

There is a lot of work planned, and the product road map looks good.

Employees get cash rewards for going above and beyond their work. I have seen rewards being given 3 times in my team this year.

    Cons

The first level managers could do a better job at yearly performance reviews.

    Pros

Great co-workers! There are tons of opportunities here. The company makes you feel important and goes out of the way to make you feel comfortable and enjoy coming to work. There are always activities and events to take part in.

    Cons

Too many things to learn. Not especially a downside, but there are a lot of products to support. You need to specialize.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. thanks for giving me a positive reason to get out of bed every morning.

I worked at NetApp as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good people, many with deep experience in storage. Lots of opportunities for new grads to those with 15+ years experience. Easy to transfer to other jobs once you work there.

    Cons

Not sure how the company always gets ranked in the top 10 places to work. It's not a bad place to work but doesn't have more to offer than other notable tech employers

    I worked at NetApp full-time

    Pros

NetApp is one of those companies that sucks you in with a lot of perks such as a gym, quarterly beer bashes, and 3 cafes. It's a high profile company and has been rated in the top ten best places to work for about 5 years running.

    Cons

The perks aren't free, they expect you to pay by being available all the time. The company is rated in the top 10 places to work because they offer employees an additional day off if they make it on the list. The company culture is a bit cold and people don't have much of a sense of team cohesiveness but untimately, I think it depends on your management. That is what really determines how you are going to do at a company. I had both good and bad management.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more transparency at the company. The employee reviews of managers was a good start but employees need some sort of recourse if they are not happy with their management.

I worked at NetApp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, good pay, good products, good systems engineers, fair managers (meaning willing to work out deals). The support from product management in the form of whitepapers, technical cookbooks, tools and staff to help with pricing, and other tactical tools are available at your finger tips.

    Cons

The company is growing so fast they haven't time to develop a stable tactical plan. The CRM tools and product capabilities have been in flux. The organization changes each year has disrupted not only the culture but made messaging to partners and customers unclear. NetApp is failing to protect its brand and start up companies are emerging with just as capable products at a fraction of the price.

    Advice to Management

Settle down and have a longer view then a quarter or fiscal year. Kind of feels like the old EMC. Share the three year plan with the field employees like you used to. Competition is tough and the preferred partners keeps changing annually. The messaging from marketing keeps changing which is perceived as a lack of a real product plan. The constant change in faces and positioning has resulted in distrust in the channel, with the customer, and with your employees.

I worked at NetApp full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Fair pay with plenty of perks

    Cons

I think they spread themselves a little too thin and had to close the Utah Office.

    Advice to Management

Some of upper management don't realize the impact of the Utah employees.

I worked at NetApp full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Friendly, professional, and smart colleagues
    Good technology
    Aggressive pursuit of market share
Good culture and striving to be Great - Supportive of work-life balance and community involvement/charitable work
STrives to be open and highly communicative

    Cons

    Hero-culture and silo-ed organization
Very much a "what have you done for me lately" culture
    Ivory-tower mentality in Corp
    No Careerpaths, no career growth
Hires new management mostly from outside
    Weakness throughout management chain
Communication falters and breaks down from middle management to the front-line worker

    Advice to Management

Better align business direction and goals with compensation policies
Link the tactical work to the strategic goals - There seems to be a loosey-goosey approach to this linkage the further down the management chain to the point where there is a lack of communication to the front-line worker and a limited linkage to the direction they are given to the achieving of strategic goals.
Think through the strategic and tactical role of professional services and structure business expectations accordingly

    Pros

Seems to be the only big IT company in Wichita. No a good choice if you're seeking other opportunities.
