    Pros

Beer bash on friday, free juice, coke, tea etc.. nothing else I think off. Wait well they arrange few events in a year.

    Cons

Lot of work. You are espected to work day and night. No promotion, no hike. Espected to deal with layoff atleast 4 months in a year. You read right. They just announce it 2 months prior to each layoff with an email which is most optimistic in entire year. Once layoff completes one more round of rehiring to prepair for next layoff.

    My time at NetApp

Jan 4, 2017 - Engineering Manager in Wichita, KS

    Pros

Competitive salaries and benefits were pluses at NetApp. The work perks that were available in Wichita were also great to have. The people you work with are top notch and great to work with.

    Cons

At this time NetApp is very unstable and the layoff fears seem to always be in the back of everyone's mind. Because of this, the competition component comes into play and people are looking out for themselves.

Negative outlook and demotivating work environment

Apr 11, 2016 - Member of Technical Staff QA in Bangalore
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Nothing much to say. One can get very good life balance (due to less work). Not much work will make you lazy and complacent. Anybody can get rewards for doing any stupid small work. Too frequent team lunches without any reason to celebrate!

    Cons

Old technology in most of the products, maintenance work mostly. Work content is reducing release after release. High attrition with no back-filling from past 18 months. Layoffs every 10-12 months. Lot of good people have left the organization themselves or asked to go. Senior experienced team members and managers are always on the threat of layoffs. Dramatized mailers coming out on layoffs 3-4 months before the event spreads fear and complete negative uncertainty on the peoples mind. Some of the old timers waiting for their names in layoff list to get the severance package. QA is not sufficiently staffed (poor dev:qa ratio), not enough work for some dev teams and too much work for most of the qa engineers. Most of the senior engineers are lethargic, laid-back, demotivated, lack technical skills and avoid any new initiatives or changes. Negative mindset throughout the organization. Talks & rumors about layoffs goes on and on every day. Too much money is spent of events & team lunches without any reasons to celebrate. No communication from Directors and senior managers on the vision and roadmap (which looks like doesn't exist) My suggestion to anyone looking for job opportunity in Netapp is not to purse whether you are fresher or experienced. Freshers may not have layoff threat here, but they will not have much to learn and soon they will become lazy and complacent. Senior experienced folks, well, you never know when your number will come in the next layoffs.
