      Great company

      Pros

Great culture, many smart people. Flexible working hours and great team environment. No until left NetApp, I realize how great NetApp culture is. I will always have NetApp blue in my heart.

      Cons

Hire middle management from external who has no idea about storage, cloud and flash. No backfill on some important positions.

      Pros

The benefits are competitive and the salary was good. The people were for the most part great to work with. Culture and values historically were good but have taken a beating in the last couple of years. There was an upper management effort to turn this around but I am not sure how successful it is being.

      Cons

As the company struggled the atmosphere took on a very political tone. At the middle management level the focus became much more short term at the expense of long term prosperity. Upper management seems to have a long term plan but communications seemed to stop at middle management creating a lot of uncertainty for the workers.

      Expect to be sold soon.

      Pros

Friendly, collaborative atmosphere. Used to have a great culture.

      Cons

Too much bureaucracy stifles efficiency and innovation. Bloated middle management runs the business like high school. If you're not in the clique, you don't get promoted and you're not listened to. Senior management struggling to find a place for the company in the new virtual storage environment.

Cultural Transformation: Not Such A Great Place To Work

May 20, 2016 - Support Account Manager in Research Triangle Park, NC

      Pros

Plenty of parking, onsite fitness center, food days (snacks, fruit, bagels), lots of people who still care about their jobs (so long as they're not in Support)

      Cons

Annual layoffs (although there's likely to be another one this fall), disappointing middle management with little/no direction, stock value dropped in half over last two years, beer bash no longer a weekly event...NetApp is no longer a Great Place To Work; they're not even on the list anymore

      Inflated Opinion of Itself

      Pros

Great sales and engineering people, embraces ongoing training and there's free water in the break room.

      Cons

Middle management are a bunch of bean counters, and executive leadership let's shareholder value drive everything...customer satisfaction is a distant afterthought. Singular focus that NAS is the answer, pushing All Flash FAS on everyone, annoying customers.

      Diminishing returns

      Feb 17, 2016 - MTS2 in Pittsburgh, PA

      Pros

Actively pursuing new technologies. Great place to get beginning experience in the corporate world. Good benefits and competitive salaries.

      Cons

Upper management seems to lack direction. Middle management is lost and unsure how to manage engineers. Most middle managers lack any real technical knowledge. There is little to no opportunity to grow here because it is already too fat at the top.

      NetApp = (ex) Nortel

Feb 7, 2016 - Manager, Customer Support in Research Triangle Park, NC

      Pros

Great campus in RTP, great work out facilities, etc.

      Cons

Terrible middle management. If you staff the entire management and Middle Management with ex Verizon and ex Nortel employees - see where both these companies have gone. Too much of boys club and this includes Verizon boys club and Nortel Boys club. I can only see this company go down the drain, due this poor leadership, excessive spending on unnecessary things such as beer bash - never understood what it promotes. I know its not networking within the company becos of the boys club already being so strong. I am seeing a ton of such comments written from every level and every BU of this company. I DON'T THINK HR AND GEORGE KURIAN cares to read. Anyways, my two cents worth.....

Good for the job they hire you for. No chance of growth.

      Pros

Strong culture, great event participation, enough independence to do your own thing.

      Cons

Horrible, horrible middle management. I wish the Executive team understood just how little of their direction gets pushed down into middle management. Trying to get something beneficial done that aligns with the company's culture and approach can often times be stymied by a particular director or VP's team and their own person agenda (i.e. We don't have time for that, even though we don't have to do any of the work). There are so many things wrong within NetApp right now, it's amazing to me how many people continue to stay on the Titanic long after it has hit the iceberg.

      Cons

Frequent Layoffs, Reorganizations. Limited opportunity for advancement. Middle management dead weight at Director & Sr. Director levels
