I have been working at Netflix full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

High base salary; high competitive technologies; very talent co-works

    Cons

Everything seems to be ad-hoc and move way too fast. The technical manager are very aggressive but sometime lacking the log-term vision for the tream. No job security. Even the Directors and VPs can be let go anytime.

    Advice to Management

Consolidate you long-term vision, not just short-term solutions. Facilitate your team member's career development, not just use them like a contractor.

I worked at Netflix full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great pay, free lunches, flexible hours, no weekends, brilliant co-workers

    Cons

I have worked for Netflix for several years and I can honestly say that a lot of the groups now including where I was has started managing up. The transparency is slowly eroding. Opinions are still accepted but disregarded under the guise of management speak. Quality is no longer a standard for shipping products. It's now the need to be perceived as "fast" regardless. Management has run amok and the standard of hiring managers has plummeted. I left on my own accord just so that people don't think it's another disgruntled employee.

    Advice to Management

Whether intentional or unintentional not listening to the people with experience and history of how the group works will eventually make the culture deck obsolete. Discouraging people to directly talk and speak their mind and making unilateral condition without a concrete plan will eventually catch up to you.

    Pros

Freedom & responsibility, creative atmosphere, free lunch and snacks

    Cons

Freedom & responsibility on a superficial level, lots of politicking and waiting for people to dig their own graves, not much support or nurturing of talent

    Advice to Management

Put aside your own insecurities and recognize talent, let people shine, it doesn't take light away from you, it enhances your genius.

    Advice to Management

Make sure some supervisors after properly trained before they ruin potential candidates.

I worked at Netflix as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very tech savvy environment. Everyone gets a cell phone when hired including contractors. Lots of technical goodies to play with. Launch day parties were cool. Most people seemed laid back. Unlimited vacation.

    Cons

Very little training for the job, with minimal direction. I felt like I was just thrown in and expected to swim.

    Advice to Management

More training and support for the employees. More structure.

I worked at Netflix full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

24 hours a day available for setting schedule. I was paid very well through the temp agency and then was given a good raise after I was hired on. There was also a lot of windows and a cheery looking appearance.

    Cons

Constant changes in team organization and fear filled environment. There were mental health hotline tear aways in the bathrooms. It wasn't an easy place to work because management constantly hounded you if you made a single mistake.

I worked at Netflix full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Work with highly intelligent individuals, free lunches, snacks sodas. your peers are great people that you will enjoy spending time around. On the peer level it is a very welcoming atmosphere.

    Cons

Work Life balance is horrible, no room to grow or it takes 8+ years. Extremely high turn over whether it be employees leaving or arbitrary 'Lay Offs'

    Advice to Management

No advice - it would be a waste of breath. Management, gets their orders from way above your level. It's a very, very large corporation where advice or ideas aren't welcomed.

I worked at Netflix full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Decent employee benefits
    -Fellow employees are great
-Not too much direct oversight/too many meetings
    -Training was excellent and engaging

    Cons

Performance metrics seem reasonable at first, but it's nearly impossible to meet some of them. For example, one of your metrics is the percentage of "No" answers you get from the survey at the end of the call asking customers if they were satisfied, but this system is relatively flawed.

    Advice to Management

Give employees a bit more breathing room, and you'll have a much happier workforce.
