I have been working at Netflix full-time

    Pros

The freedom & responsibility culture is real. It is nice to go to battle alongside fully-formed adults who are the best at what they do. The product is amazing and incredibly fun to market. Reed is an incredible leader….focused and effective.

    Cons

While one of the plus sides of the debate culture is gathering multiple perspectives on your work, the downside is that you can get slowed down by the need to accommodate a myriad of stakeholders. Marketing leadership also hasn't quite found the right balance of art and science. While Netflix has become an entertainment brand, it should be careful to not set up an organization that acts/looks/feels exactly like a Hollywood company. If you are not in L.A. and/or working on creative, it has become increasingly difficult to feel like you are truly part of the Netflix marketing organization.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that marketing leadership can flex both the right and left brain. Ensure that the CMO is willing to engage folks in all corners of the marketing organization (programmatic marketing, partner marketing, etc.)

    Pros

Netflix is all about judgement and not process.

    Cons

The only Cons are that it got to be the same old thing every day and was a little too easy near the end.

I have been working at Netflix as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing culture, not micro managing, awesome employees, free lunches, they let you watch movies and TV shows at work! (as long as it doesn't disrupt your work flow), and it pays well.

    Cons

There's no central design hub, so you're mostly getting work through a ticketing system. Passed down by people who aren't designers and sometimes (not often) have difficulties expressing their needs in terms that specific for designers. Also, getting full time employment is very difficult. Lots of turn around with new employees. You're considered an old timer after a year or so.

    Advice to Management

Don't fall back on the culture too much. It can be repetitive. Also, maybe more interaction between the design teams!

I worked at Netflix as a contractor

    Pros

The company is very tech-forward. Also everyone is pushed to be on top of their game (which meshes with the culture deck). All the initiatives are ambitious and aggressive in a good way.

    Cons

It seems there are a good number of persons in positions of power and influence making key decisions without having and/or soliciting or gathering requisite knowledge to make the best choices.

    Advice to Management

Encourage upper management to solicit more expertise and direct experience when hiring for the roles and functions for new initiatives.
