I have been working at Neuberger Berman full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Strong culture
Terrific leadership who saved the firm and have really grown it over the past 8 years
    Aligned incentives
The best 401k - a 15% contribution with no match required from employee

    Cons

None if you like the industry

As the industry has become more competitive, the firm has raised the bar resulting in more terminations and external replacements than we used to have. While this impacts a very small percentage of the employees, it has created more intensity and some unwelcome uncertainty for individuals. Clear feedback that folks are not in the bottom few percent of the employee base is important so there is no confusion or unnecessary anxiety.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work

Your raising the bar has made the firm better for clients and 95% of the employees

I worked at Neuberger Berman full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Management has passion for the business. Most had many years of solid industry experience. Current management team in place for number of years.

    Cons

Sales organization lacked cohesive and consistent strategy. Growth has come from market appreciation and less from positive asset inflows. International expansion has been disappointing.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond what competitors are doing. More innovation.

I worked at Neuberger Berman full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent colleagues who are genuine, professional, talented and conscientious. Work life balance is good. Location is accessible.

    Cons

IT Senior Management needs to go. They are nothing more than seasoned practitioners of the proverbial 3 letter practice: 1) Blame the predecessor, 2) Reorganize, 3) Work out an exit strategy and prepare 3 new letters.

    Advice to Management

Abandon tired old practices with PM "Star" system as it is not sustainable and creates succession issues. Break down barriers so client information is shared across the firm. Scrap your IT program and start with the senior execs. The market is going through structural shifts without making these changes NB will fail to succeed.
