I worked at Neustar full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent pay, bonus and benefits. Company has always been profitable, plenty of cash in hand, able to acquire new companies and increase revenue every year.

    Cons

Poor technical management since 2006. Skilled technical employees were discouraged to stay with the company and demotivated with bell curve strategy on annual performance reviews etc. Too many people joined the management ranks at mid level and senior level, who introduced too many processes, cost cutting strategies, layoffs and complicated the work environment with office politics.

    Advice to Management

Focus on strengthening the central operations with skilled and motivated technical employees.
Reduce the number of people in the management (director, VP etc layers).
Focus on good employee retention, allocate bigger budgets for training/better reward programs to the folks that work in operations & provide 24x7 support because you can't achieve the company's goals , efficiency & profitability without their good support.

I have been working at Neustar full-time

    Pros

The company is profitable. The legacy business is likely funding the growth businesses.

401K matching is 6% when you contribute 8% of your salary.

Depending on which department and which office, you can possibly manage a nice work life balance.

Upcoming acquisition could potentially bring some much needed changes. See below

    Cons

Lots of uncertainty ahead as company is getting acquired by private equity.

The culture, especially on the growth side of the business, is lacking cohesion. There is significant factionalism as Neustar is comprised of many acquired companies. Many employees still identify themselves with the previously acquired company.

Executive team is having trouble monitoring disparate business units let alone managing them. They don't seem to have a firm grasp of the businesses they acquired so they are somewhat blindly trusting the BUs to tell them how well they are doing.

    Advice to Management

Consider splitting security services, npac, and marketing services into three different entities post acquisition. You'll probably get better managerial oversight.

Consolidate your product portfolio. You're sales team is pitching a bunch of one-off products that don't complement one another nor scale very well.

Develop a unifying culture. Espouse some company values and strictly enforce them.

Carefully evaluate who you select as leaders of the BUs. Managing up is a different skill set from managing down.

I worked at Neustar full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great compensation, benefits and culture

    Cons

The SLT doesn't understand the impacts of decisions being made within functional teams. Therefore, decisions are made, the business is impacted and frustration ensues.

    Advice to Management

Instead of receiving high level debriefs around decisions made, better understand the potential impacts. Once the change is in place, it's too late to get back what was had.

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Take a long term view and stick with it

    Pros

Good salary, Good Benefits and social environment

    Cons

Values "yes" people; CEO believes in "ruling by fear" and do not get on her bad side. Management rewarded for agreeing with executives.

I have been working at Neustar full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

GREAT coworkers, good benefits, good office perks, profit share.

    Cons

Management is constantly changing, no formal training/onboarding program, no clear career paths, culture STEEPED in alcohol, HE works in the company interest, most department managers don't know much about the department they manage.

    Advice to Management

Stay long enough to develop the workforce, not use them as stepping stones to the next level of your career. Hire managers with experience in the area you hire them into, stop the favoritism.
