I have been working at New Balance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Schedule flexibility, happy culture, fun place to work for the most part. Many people stay for a long time.

    Cons

Many people stay for a long time, and become comfortable in their positions. This makes it very hard to move up and around. They have a set block of people who stay, while younger energetic people tend to have short stints, get frustrated by lack of mobility, and move out.

    Advice to Management

It takes money to make money. Invest in building the foundation of the company instead of hiring more sales people. There is a lot of work to be done systems-wise before the company can handle increased demand for product.

I worked at New Balance full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people work at new balance and many people have worked at new balance for many years creating a culture.

    Cons

Unfortunately the culture at new balance has been changing and not for the good. Lay offs are occurring to people who have been employed for many years.

    Advice to Management

    Take care of your employees.

I have been working at New Balance as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Mostly great people to work with and can dress casually all the time.

    Cons

Behind in their way to manage structure like a database for tracking devices, software licenses, and understanding who is the right person to talk to regarding a specific situation. Folks, are generally nice to help out.

    Advice to Management

IT needs time to mature in their processes and policies in various areas.

    Cons

No where to move up. People are satisfied with status quo. Many folks don't want change, just want to do their job and go home.

I worked at New Balance full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Casual work environment. Most people were friendly. Benefits were pretty good.

    Cons

It wasn't what you knew, it was who you knew. When trying to climb the corporate ladder, having the right person/manager on your side carried more weight than your actual job performance. Raises received were practically the same person to person no matter if you worked harder than your peers. Promotions took quite some time to achieve. Salaries could be higher like the competition offers.

    Advice to Management

Reward the employees for their hard work and good job performance, not for their popularity or brown-nosing. Reward your loyal employees over the ones who leave NB and years later decide to come back to NB again after going to work for a competitor. Give better raises and promotions in a timely manner - when they are deserved!

    Pros

Great people on the production floor.
Like any other place you can find good people in all departments.
They sponsor a lot of activities (most of them during weekends).
The company is involved in the community.
    Good perks.

    Cons

There is not a lot of team work. It is very disorganized and you end up doing everybody else's job. Manufacturing/production is particularly stressful because of the lack of management and management unrealistic expectations. It is not easy to move around to other positions.

    Advice to Management

Need to be careful with who is promoted to "leadership" positions and the reasons people are promoted. Make sure the people in these positions know how to work in stressful situations, know what they are doing and know how to interact with people.

I have been working at New Balance full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

flexible schedule, great benefits, highly motivated innovation teams, ability to greatly influence the future of New Balance as a brand and company, company environment favors driven employees, supportive of healthy, active lifestyles

    Cons

conservative design decision making, headquarters is split between 2 offices in separate towns - would be efficient and more productive to be in the same location

    Advice to Management

engage with other departments within the company and align on larger strategic planning initiatives; focus on long term innovations 10+ years out
