I have been working at New Horizon Academy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Teaching children, building relationships, making friends, 46 locations - always a need for teachers/ help! overtime is available!

    Cons

Some centers only allow 30 minute break-very short at least be offered an hour! Bathroom breaks are long waited due to ratio, had bad experience with teacher/ management at #59

    Advice to Management

Communication and address difficulties head on with all teachers, let go of teachers who break major licensing and/ or accreditation’s!

I have been working at New Horizon Academy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I loved the people I work with. There is a good sense of community. It's nice to start your work day with hugs from kids and seeing them be so happy you're there

    Cons

Availability schedules don't mean anything. You have to be available to work from 6am to past 630pm, and nobody can tell you when you're going to be done with work. A lot of evening and weekend meetings and trainings. Families have no schedules, they come and go as they please. Pay is horrible for what you have to do and deal with

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people working directly with the kids. Pay your employees more. In some centers, they are getting chairs thrown at them and dealing with horrible behavior daily.

I worked at New Horizon Academy full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I loved working for this company. They try their hardest to stay up to date on what is best for children and their annual employee conference is inspirational and reminds you what is really important when taking care of children. I loved the management at the Elk River center. They were always so helpful and really made the staff feel like a big family.

    Cons

Pay is low and there are lots of challenging behaviors to deal with.

I worked at New Horizon Academy part-time

    Pros

I am happy to see that this company gives health insurance even though it is not the best. The facilities are very put together and there are many rules regarding how the rooms should be set up. They usually have plenty of supplies for teachers to create lessons with. Assistant Director was a rock star at my location.

    Cons

Lack of communication from the director. Worked in a room by myself usually with 7 toddlers running around. It was crazy at some points. Would have been nice to have an assistant teacher in the classroom with me. Also the lack of prep time during my time there made it difficult to work on putting together good lessons. Floats should come in a relieve teachers for bathroom breaks as well.

    Advice to Management

Make sure there are lead teachers and assistant teachers in each classroom. Even though the ratio is 7:1 it was incredibly hard to do my best with a bunch of 18 month old's going crazy. Specifically during diaper changing time. Make sure you have a float hitting bathroom breaks for each room along with giving teachers prep time. Hire enough people and get on a consistent schedule.
