I have been working at New Jersey Institute of Technology full-time

    Pros

    Work with skilled faculty members

    Cons

Given the odds, postdocs as stepping stones to academic careers can be dicey. Effectively I was treated like slave labor--worked 80 hours a week for neither continued work in academia NOR any help towards securing a job outside of academia. Nobody in the department had time for me. Furthermore the health insurance provided by NJIT is substandard. I suffered a herniated disc and underwent an operation that was approved by the provider, NJ Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield. Afterwards the procedure was deemed 'not medically necessary' and my claims were denied and I am on the hook for ~$27k. Most regrettable work situation I have ever been a part of--run for the hills.

I worked at New Jersey Institute of Technology full-time

    Pros

Colleagues are good, down to earth people. Strength is in the teamwork. Salary is good. Benefits are great.

    Cons

As long as the management approves or likes you, you will not have any problems. Many managers just want a yes ma'am or sir employee.

    Advice to Management

Every single person at a company is an asset to the company for all of them together actually form the company. Have integrity in your decisions and be fair to others. Everyone needs their job.
