I worked at New Leaf Community Markets full-time

    Pros

awesome customers, take home free food, 20% discount

    Cons

impossible to advance, they over work and under value you, workers gossip way too much, way too slow with service, staff argues in front of or with customers.

    Advice to Management

promote people based on experience in the department and store and you won't keep losing your best employees.

I worked at New Leaf Community Markets full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible scheduling
    Good coworkers
    Direct managers are helpful day-to-day

    Cons

Anyone above the department managers only got in the way of day-to-day operations.

    Advice to Management

Less micromanagement would go a long way to helping employees feel that they're valued, intelligent, and important.

    Pros

    Fun environment
    Awesome coworkers
    Great food
    Benefits at part time
    PTO

    Cons

Growth opportunities are a bit limited in region, most of the growth is up in Portland

I have been working at New Leaf Community Markets part-time

    Pros

The company is very connected to the local community. They have very loyal customers.

    Cons

The company makes many changes very quickly and abruptly. There is a lot of behind the scenes stress that is felt by the entire staff.

  6. "Really trying"

I worked at New Leaf Community Markets full-time

    Pros

New Seasons is really trying to make the company a good one but their distance from the bay area (located in Portland) makes it difficult for them to understand the challenges of the bay area market.
    Good and smart people
Some good opportunities if you have the flexibility to move around

    Cons

Hubristic management ethos coming out of Portland
Hard to get recognized for getting the job done
Decent starting wages, pushing minimum wages up, but not competitive at middle management level.

    Advice to Management

Allow middle managers and local managers more decision making power. Directing from above can drive the company down a blind alley.
Stick to a core belief, such as New Leaf's "clean store" concept. Though sales might suffer in the short run, a niche strong core mission will last longer than simply pursuing any sale you can get.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at New Leaf Community Markets full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good employees, free food, good health benefits, interesting internal rewards programs

    Cons

Disorganized, inconsistent management from store to store. Lots of investment in expanding locations but not investment in current locations. Stores were expected to sink or swim. Very little guidance on company standards. Constantly understaffed. Failed to account for increasing competition in area.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your current stores are thriving before investing in new stores. Provide more employees to store, because if there are not enough workers to spread the load, customer service will suffer. Customer service and small scale local feel is going to be the great separator for this company over big companies like Whole Foods.

I have been working at New Leaf Community Markets full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Profit sharing
    Free Food from expired products

    Cons

    Less and less organic foods
Depending on the department the turnover can be extremely high

    Advice to Management

Stick to the values that New Leaf was founded on, and don't turn it into New Seasons.
