    Fun position, lots of bureaucracy

    Pros

It's one of the few local places to work as a programmer. Lots of diversity in jobs done. Management is wonderful. Emphasizes proper work life balance.

    Cons

There are a lot of bureaucratic hoops to jump through to get approval for projects.

Good benefits but administration is out of touch

    Pros

NMMI is generally a good place to work. You get good benefits, generous annual and sick leave, free gym use, campus is beautiful, and most people are friendly. If you're lucky, you'll work for one of the few good directors on campus.

    Cons

NMMI's biggest problem is an out of touch administration (CEO, CFO, Chief of Staff, and some directors). They refuse to modernize campus resources for cadets, lackluster technology and social media presence, poor resources for parents, no training, no cohesiveness, ridiculous graduation requirements,..just to name a few. Getting a raise is nearly impossible without putting up a year long fight with the CFO who sees everyone as leeches., regardless of how hard they work. Some positions have been incorrectly classified per the Department of Labor, but you will not get back pay! Lack of communication between departments is a huge issue, management is constantly passing the buck. Change is almost impossible or takes 3+ years to achieve.

nice place at times but they don't value good employees or pay a decent wage

    Pros

Great co-workers in some buildings Hours are nice if you have a child Most people are very friendly and helpful

    Cons

Run by old guys who are slow to take anything new into consideration. Pay is probably the lowest I've seen, they also pay each position the same, so if one secretary is lazy and the other works hard consistently they still get the same pay. Upper management complains about staff turnover, but the staff leaves due to low pay, yet pay hasn't gone up aside from last year to cover the insurance increase. They don't care about employees or hard work, it's all politics and who likes who best.

    Pros

Time off is great, excellent benefits, most co-workers are great

    Cons

No real raises, when insurance goes up you end up making less because the raise doesn’t cover the increase, a lot of drama and politics,

    Pros

Great work environment. Very rewarding job, working with young adults coaching and mentoring them. Pay and benefits are good too.

    Cons

Working hours can be a strain the first three weeks of the school year. After that, they become more normal, except you don't get a regular weekend. Most people are off Thursday Friday, or Sunday Monday.

    Pros

Great benefits and good pay for the area. The people I work with are what really make it worth coming into work everyday.

    Cons

A lot of distractions on a daily basis and a lack of a good quiet areas for thinking clearly can be taxing some days.

    Pros

Unique institution in southern NM. The school has the feel of its own small town within a small town and people are mostly friendly. Excellent benefits and free gym use

    Cons

Low wages. There has not been a recent cost of living adjustment higher than the insurance increase.

Working at NMMI can be stressful at times. A lot of changes happen suddenly and without warning so your day can get tossed all about.

    Pros

Not much pressure and generally good place to work. Being around Cadets is nice and if you like the military this place is good.

    Cons

Expected internal politics of course. Pay is not so great, (it's an educational institution). Lots of "old timers" who have been there for a long time and should be retired freeing up positions for younger people who actually want to contribute.
