I have been working at New York City Department of Education full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good for college students and recent grads considering going into education. Starting out as a sub para is great for a flexible work/school schedule. Once you become permanent, salary upgrades increase based on years of experience and number of college credits. You also receive same health, dental, and union benefits as teachers.

    Cons

Sub paras do not receive health care benefits and check are not consistent as pay is per diem. Once you have applied all 120 college credits, there is no opportunity for salary upgrades in this position. Position not equipped to support large financial responsibilities
