    Pros

    -Retirement Benefits
    -Healthcare Benefits
    -Vacation Time
    -Working with students

    Cons

-Low pay for amount of hours worked
-Overbearing Administration that likes to micromanage
    -Systematic failure that marginalizes students
    -Poor work life balance
    -Little administrative support.

    Advice to Management

-Administration needs to trust teachers more or teacher turn-over will continue to be high. Teaching attracts talent but cannot retain it.
-Pay teachers more. We work way beyond school hours.

    Pros

I love working with kids and helping them grow to be smart, caring and hard working individuals.

I love what I do but I feel that I'm not getting paid enough.

    Advice to Management

If you love what you do that's beautiful. Yes they say when you love what you do work better. That is true in some cases, but what ever job I have I give my all. I do prefer a reasonable income as well.

I worked at New York City Department of Education full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very dedicated colleagues, work was often fast-paced and interesting, some departments have excellent managers, work/life balance is excellent

    Cons

Some departments have the worst managers I have ever worked for - most managers have no experience and training as a manager and it shows. Pay is highly variable - some are paid quite well for what they do (salaries are available on SeeThroughNY) while others are underpaid.

    Advice to Management

Just because someone is an expert in the subject matter does not mean they know how to manage people.
